hmm i'm not sure if this is the right place to put this...but! i was curious about the 'black hole' effect my diamond seems to have under certain lights. i first thought to ask when i was following natalie portman's ring on celebrity ring thread. jgny said "That center stone does look dark in some pics, in which case an older cut may make sense. " and i had been wondering about that (what i call) black hole effect on my diamond.

so i posted my Q there but :P it was the wrong place to put it. SO :) here's a new thread about that.....first, i'm copying pasting my question from the thread:

you know what? actually, my diamond does that too!! (look dark in certain lights) and it's a RB H&A in a halo setting and i thought maybe b/c the whole diamond isn't exposed as in the traditional open prong setting (?? i dont know how to describe it, you know like the 6 prong tiffany's or 4 prong cartier's) ..

...=\ this is a bit of a side track, but really why does that happen? it's not like it doesn't have fire. it's BLINDING. but it looks like there's white halo and dark *sparkly* blackhole in the middle in certain lights. is that normal???

and here are some of my "artsy" photos of my ring that shows this "black hole effect" . it tends to show more when i'm under orange/yellowish bright spotlights, like the kind you'd find in study cafes. my diamond shows LOTS of fire, but mainly it looks like blackish background with lottts of rainbow fire. if that make any sense.

vs. the other 'normal' picture of my profile.

am i crazy? or does anyone know what i'm talking about??
