Quoted from Barry''s post in the above web link:

Interestingly, in my diamond-cutting experiences, I have found the thin girdles aroung the head of
both marquise and pear shapes will invariably lead to chipping and fracturing.

------------------------------------------------

What is the head of marquise and pear shapes is it the rounded parts as opposed to point/s of the diamond?

Thank you Cut Nut

Barry wrote in full about marquises and pear shapes:

In fancies, i.e.; marquises and pears,
thin girdles at or near the points is a
definite no-no. At other spots, same as in
the rounds. Interestingly, in my
diamond-cutting experiences, I have found the thin girdles aroung the head of
both marquise and pear shapes will
invariably lead to chipping and fracturing.

I was thinking he meant something else as he mentioned points above but maybe he was just
re-interating the fact!
