A couple of years ago I went to jared and the didn't have what I wanted. They took me in a room where they showed me on the computer virtual stone inventory with prices. Now I could go on blue nile or to WF or another jeweler and find the same stone in virtual inventory. When the price is listed on that page is it Jared's, BN, WF price or is it the price of the stone to whatever store chooses it? What I'm saying is: does that price include the store markup or do they usually add to that price?

Many do share this virtual inventory. The price that you see when you go on WF, BG , Blue Nile , JA are the price you will pay. These sights also have the PS scope price and a wire price (both are less then listed price). I cant speak for what the B&M store would charge . I am assuming they are looking at rapnet. But again youl'd do better using one of the on line vendors . Try to use their in house stones which they have instant access with. You wouldn't want to lose a stone while deciding. Some of the sights let you hold 2-3 stones while you are decidin.g

I have heard stories about a stone being sold out from underneath a customer without a deposit

I think I understand what you are asking. I think the program that each company uses allows them to determine THEIR individual selling price. I went to Jared years ago and was shown their virtual list as well, later that weekend I was as to locate several of the same stones on James Allen's virtual list at a lower price, so I'm guessing that the program that these BM stores show us is their cost plus their predetermined markup already factored in for when they share it with their clients.

Thank you Christina, you hit it on the head. I am not in the market, I buy from WF when I want something. I just wanted to know if the programs were list price or store marked up prices.
