I am looking at upgrading my current stone from a 1.25, H, VS2, VG stone to a 2 carat. One option is a 2.04, G, VS2, VG stone. The diameter measurements on my old stone are 7.04 x 7.12 and the new stone is 7.97 x 8.02. I've seen it in person and it is quite beautiful. However, I am not sure if the size increase will be evident in the ring?

The other option I am looking at is a 2.17, F, Excellent stone but it is a bit above my price range. It's measurements are 8.41x8.47 and looks significantly larger but is also (obviously) more expensive. I guess the question is, is the jump from 7.04 x 7.12 to 7.97 x 8.02 significant enough to justify the cost of the upgrade?

Have you thought about dropping down to SI1 that is eye clean? I'm assuming with this upgrade you are trading up so you are stuck with the place you purchased it? Regardless I honestly don't think the costs is justified for me for that small of a mm jump. I would see if your vendor can find something larger but drop down to SI1 if size is what you want. I'm a fan of SI1's because I don't care if I can see includsions with a 10x loup as long as I can't see them with the naked eye. Also there is a big difference between F and H. If you are find with the H stay around there and don't bother paying for F.

i don't know if the cost is justify or not but you'll notice the big difference in diameter... ;))

btw; a well cut 2ct stone should be closer to 8.10mm

You want a GIA Excellent cut stone. As pointed out, the stone you are looking at may be too deep as it is facing up small for a 2 ct stone. You do want 8.1mm for diameter on a 2.0 ct stone. I would stick with G-H color and VS clarity and look only at GIA Excellent cut. Excellent is a broad range and some of those are better than others. But very good usually means there is a negative somewhere. I wouldn't spend that kind of money and not get excellent cut.

Yes, 7mm to 8.1 mm is WELL worth it! I went from 1 ct (6.5mm) to 1.6 cts (7.6mm) and that was worth it (but I plan one more upgrade)! You could also take a price break if you went under 2 cts to 1.8 cts.
