Question about size

I have a question about the size of different shapes. I am kind of confused by the information I have read. If I have a 2 carat princess and a 2 carat round will the round look bigger? I was wanting a princess cut but I l-o-v-e the appearance of BIG...hehehe... What cuts appear biggest per carat weight? TIA.

Anything elongated, emerald (depending on depth), pear, marquise, oval, along those lines tend to appear larger than their carat weight.

As an interesting aside, I was at a doctor''s depo the other day. the doctor was a really lovely psychologist about my age, maybe a bit younger. I just kept sitting there thinking: I''m not worthy. I''m not worthy. Her wedding ring was what looked to be a 5 ct. pear on a shared prong 3/4 eternity band with matching 3/4 eternity band. The stones in said bands were .25 a piece. I know because they were the size of my earrings. LOL On her right hand was what looked to be a tacori something or other with pave band (3-sided) and what looked to be a 2 ct. cushion. Dang was I jealous.

She was so sweet though. I told her after it was over what beautiful rings she had and she was very gracious. It was really cool.

A princess cut is deeper so a round will look bigger... if you really love the princess and big, you could get a princess with a halo or check out Whiteflash''s X-Factor princess, which has clipped corners, so the ct. weight from the "missing" corners is "moved" towards making the stone look bigger for its weight.

ITA w/ this. Rounds look bigger for the same weight.
I had a 1.3 Princess and it looked like a 1crt at best.

there is actually a picture floating around here somewhere of a princess next to a round and both are the same carat weight and b/c of the corners on the princess they look *almost* the same size. honestly, if the princess is well cut, like the one in the picture was, I don't think it would make that big of a difference to not get the shape you really love, but the others are correct, a princess does have a smaller spread than a round, so if it really is all about the size, there are other shapes that will look bigger...

i'll try to hunt down that picture....

ok, here''s the picture I was thinking of, b/c of the corners on the princess the surface area''s aren''t that much different and the round doesn''t appear to be a ton bigger.

I agree with the above.

Also I hear a lot that fancy shapes are slighty less expensive for the same carat weight so you might be able to get something bigger in a princess than you would in a round and get the same (or perhaps larger) look size-wise.
