Hi all,
I''ve been researching old posts on this great site and have learned a tremendous amount of information about diamonds. I am looking for an engagement ring, and am intrigued by the uniqueness of Old Miner''s cut and Old European cut stones and vintage settings. I have mostly seen small center diamonds (.25 and less) in many of the vinage settings. The other day I found a beautiful ring in heavy 18k, approx. 1 carat diamond (the clerk said it was J color, SI1 or 2, and Old Miner''s cut, but I didn''t see the paperwork yet), flanked by two large sapphires that I fell in love with.
I don''t have a photo to share, but I have a question about what you all think about it''s value, and particularly it''s odd shape. The diamond is not quite cushion, definitely not round, and more like an oval, but not as oval as modern ovals. It has an open cutlet clearly visible and a high table. It''s cut is not perfect, and you can see slight variables with a 10x loop (I didn''t seen any inclusions, feathering, etc. with the loop, though, even though she called it SI). So far through researching on the net I have only found cushion OMC and round OEC. Is there such a thing as an oval OMC or OEC? The ring and diamond are stunning, with lots of fire. The price seems good - $2,500. Does the price seem acceptable? Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you in advance
