I have been searching for diamonds for the last month and recently found one i like very much on Mondera.com. I was willing to drop in clarity for a better cut and larger size. The one I picked out was a SI1. I called mondera to have them to e-mail me the GIA cert. just to check where the inclusions were (not in the middle of the table). The lady I talked to said I shouldn''t get it because of the SI1 clarity but I explained to her I was aware of the clarity and I was fine with it. She went ahead and sent me the e-mail but in it she said she went ahead and had the diamond checked and said the inclusions were very visible to the naked eye (more like an I1-I2). She also recommended another diamond that was almost identical but with a VS1 clarity and of course, almost cost $1000 more.

Am I being scammed, or is it possible the GIA cert. is wrong. The graph on the certification only showed a few inclusions outside the table. I really like the dimensions of this diamond and am still considering buying it even if they are trying to scam me.

In other words, they do not have the stone that you want; or rather, they do have the stone you want but say that it's not the quality that you're expecting it to be. Not all SI1 are eyeclean and the one that you want may very well fall into this category.

I don't think you're being scammed but I would suggest that you look elsewhere. PSers here can help if you're willing to disclose the 4C's that your looking for and the price range you're willing to spend.

Good luck with the purchasing process. My suggestion is don't buy the first stone you like because there will always be better ones out there if you look hard enough.

Forgot to answer your other question re: whether the GIA cert is wrong. Remember that the cert is only a 2D graphical representation of the real thing. In my case, the primary VS2 inclusion of my fiancee's center Superbcert 3 ring stone is size-wise smaller than the primary SI1 inclusion of one the side stones. However, with a 10X loop I can find it immediately as opposed to the SI1 where I would have to remember what o'clock position it is in.

In other words, it's difficult to predict the 3-dimensional visualization of the inclusions from the cert alone.

Just remember that SI1 does not necessarily mean eye clean. Maybe the lady was telling the truth. That she really did see the inclusions.

This would not be the first time a Mondera Sales Rep was a bit lacking in customer service, tho.

Blue got her situation resolved, but it took a post on Price Scope and a wake-up call to the sales staff by the CEO.

Thanks for the input.

To say that an SI1 looks like an I2 is a bit much. Either that was a particularly unlucky SI1 or an overstatement. Are there any I2s listed by Mondera that could possibly have been refference for this statemt? It should not be hard to find a pleasing SI1 with no stryking inclusions showing.
