I am working on an eternity band and had settled on .30 carat stones prong set in boxes. I originally wanted a band that was wide--5 to 7mm for finger coverage as much as anything--but also to show off the shape of the boxes--octagonal or hexagonal. I figured .3 carat stones (4.34 ish diameter) plus a couple mm''s for the metal and that was get me to about 6. However , I also want the band shallow and low to the finger. I am wondering at what point the up and down thickness will make it uncomfortable between the fingers even though it wont be prong set. Any comments or insights are appreciated?

shameless bump!

Do you have any pictures of rings similar to what you''re interested in...? I''m having trouble visualizing stones that size in a setting like you''re describing. I think I have an idea of what you''re talking about but I''ve never seen it done with stones that are .3 carats each- sounds like it would be a bit bulky with a box for every stone.

thats my fear--let me see if i can get a picture to load. i cannot ever get pix to load on this site

here is the shape of the box i want-the connecting pieces between the earrings. platinum milgrained.

this is the idea of the band but with the boxes being hexagonal and abutting at the sides. (the points would go up and down)

I think you should try on a bezeled eternity in stones that size to see if it''s going to be comfortable or not for you.

If you''re near a city, they all have diamond districts that should carry at least bezeled eternity rings in various sizes. GO TRY SOME ON!

Have you been working with a jeweler? I think they are going to have the best input on how to keep the height profile minimialized, but there are going to be limitations with stones of that size.

i have but not in a long time....good point

I tried some honkers on at Tiffany and they were not comfortable for me. I think it depends on your fingers because I want to be able to put my fingers together, not have to hold them slightly apart. Although if it is a seldom-warn "special occasion" ring comfort might not be that important.

I tried on an eternity band with I think .3''s the other day and I didn''t find it comfortable either. Too much metal between fingers and it wouldn''t allow my fingers to lie comfortably-the ring was always hitting the other fingers.

So I really would try and find some to try on...

i went to tiffany''s--tried on prong set and bezel set .16 and hardly felt it. however they had no carat weight larger than that wasnt prong set. so I didnt really learn anything.

HI:

My eternity ring is not exactly "comfortable" and my fingers are spread apart by the ring. Not sure it can be avoided b/c of stone size and U prong design. But b/c it is my favorite ring--I "suffer" in silence!

picture? stone size?

I would go try some on to see what you think. I don''t think I could get used to having diamonds on the sides and bottom. I love them though.
