Question about engagement ring settings

Hello all.

This is a great site. Armed with all the knowledge from this site, I am now able to make an informed decision about my engagement ring purchase.

I have a question: Would it be inapporpriate to have two sapphire sidestones on an engagement ring? Is this setting with the 2 sapphire sidestones considered a right hand ring or is it appropriate enough to be an engagement ring?

Definitely appropriate.
I have a bunch of friends with colored sidestones. Very pretty.

I think the setting you are considering is lovely! IMO it is in no way inappropriate to have the sapphire sidestones in an engagement ring, just a different style to diamond sidestones. If that is what you and your fiance like that''s great and don''t worry about it. I think the combination will be brilliant and that you will enjoy your lovely ring. I particularly love a nice mix of colored stones and diamonds as do many of us, so don''t forget the pics when the ring is done!

Sapphire is the birthstone for my girlfriend and that is also the month I wish to propose in. I liked the idea of adding colour to accent the center diamond. I just wasn''t sure if this setting with sapphire sidestones was appropriate as an engagement ring. Thanks to your responses, I now know that there is no strict rule/guideline for engagement rings to be comprised entirely of diamonds. (New to all this. They make it look so easy in the movies..

)

I don''t think engagement rings HAVE to be diamonds. I''ve seen lot of engagement rings that have colored stones rather than diamonds. It all depends on what finger it''s going to be on!

IMO, If it''s on the left-hand ring finger, then no matter what, it''ll be appropriate.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! In fact, I have a friend w/ a very similar setting from BlueNile (EC center stone w/ sapphire trillion sides)...I think your idea about birthstone and proposal month is great, and it will be lovely!
