Hi Everyone,

I''m thinking of having a micropave halo setting made - a la Harry Winston. I''ve been told that the basket or "doughnut" of this setting will not allow for flush fit...my jeweler can do a modification to allow for flush fit, but I think the look of the doughnut is much prettier. If I go with the doughnut, I may be able to live with the gap between the E-ring and the WB, but want to get an idea of what it may look like with this type of setting...

Does anyone have pictures of their wedding bands worn together with the HW halo setting or with settings that have a similar "doughnut" type basket? I want to gauge how much of a gap there may be...

TIA!

And a thread from someone who modified an ERD version for a flush fit

thanks, EricaD!

If the gap with my ring were to look like the gap in the picture you posted, I totally could live with that, and in fact find the gap to be charming!

Anyone else have pics they care to share?

Thank you!

A lot of folks feel like you and don;t mind the gap...
Another possiblity is a curved band......

I had Leon Mege make a setting for my Aqua RHR, which has a doughnut. Someone in the thread on it asked how flush a band would sit with it, so I took some pics, which I''ll link you to. I found very little gap, I could certainly live with it.

Here''s the best shot I think I have of the doughnut without the band with it.

Then this is the page with the WB shots. Hope it helps!

Nice ring Ellen!!

I believe that the poster was referring to what we call a "halo" ring- in other words, one with diamonds encircling the center.....

Of course I could be wrong- when you think "donut", what does it mean? ( Besides Krispy Kream)

Hmmm, I automatically thought about the part at the bottom, that''s what most of us call a doughnut. But now I''m not sure if that''s what the OP meant. *scratches head* I guess she''ll let me know.

And thank you!

p.s. KK''s are my fave.

Do you plan to have a matching band made (pave) or will it be something different from the halo? Personally, I love a small gap because it really adds definition to a halo setting - the halo really pops. But the size of the gap will depend on the size of the center stone and doughnut. The one I posted was a 2.64ct center stone, FYI.

I went back and reread and I''m not sure what the poster means either

halo- is as you described it

basket-is usually 4 prongs with the bar across that holds the stone, sometimes they are paved. the basket can stick out not allowing for a flush fit too.

donut-is the little piece of metal underneath the stone that stick out a bit. flush fitting rings don''t have one in their design.

Hello!

thank you for your help! Although I am interested in a halo, when I was talking about the "doughnut", I was, indeed, referring to the base area of the ring...sorry for the confusion!

The pictures of your setting were very helpful and were what I was looking for. not sure if the halo in conjunction with the doughnut (donut?) base would cause even more of a gap? but then again, i liked the gap in ericaD's pics (which illustrated the halo + doughnut/donut)!

thanks all!

Sorry for the confusion again. I think I am getting my terminology all wrong. I was not referencing the "halo" when I was talking about the donut.

When I spoke with the jeweler, he referred to setting as having a "donut" which would not allow for flush fit. I assumed that meant the entire bottom part of the ring, but I guess I''m wrong. thanks for the clarification as to terms!

So to clear this up, basically I want a halo setting that looks like the Harry Winston setting. The bottom part of that setting will not allow for flush fit, so I was asking for pics from people who had the HW (or similar) settings worn together with their WB''s to see what the gap between the two would look like, so that I could decide whether to go with the HW style setting or whether to have it modified for flush fit.

sorry again and thank you, all!
