During the past couple of months I''ve been looking at a lot of diamonds, to get comfortable with the price /specs. Thanks a lot to all PS''ers here for sharing lots of information.

I''ve noticed that in some AGS certificates, it doesn''t show the inclusions.

For example
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-754542.htm#

Under the table map it says ".. Red marks indicate inclusions ... "

But I don''t see any red marks on the plot ... nor do I see the regular legends of feathers, chip, etc

Does it mean this particular stone just don''t have inclusions? But it''s an SI1, so there must be some inclusions..

Can somebody help explain ? Thanks !

In that cert, there actually are red marks, but they are hard to see. They are at 9:00 and towards the center a little. They are on the plot of the table.

it is pretty difficult to judge inclusions by a plot. if you want to know the inclusions, you should ask someone to look at the diamond.

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

I saved the image and zoomed in on the certificate and finally I saw the little red marks.

The quality of the photography varies.
You really have to look on the original to be sure you are seeing every mark.
Some are very faint and don't show up on the photos they take.

I guarantee an SI1 has more incusions than visible in the link you provided.
If the original report looked like that it would be given a VVS1 or so clarity rating.
This is very annoying for online customers.

If I was serious about a stone I'd call the vendor and tell him or her how many incusions I can count on my screen.
Ask him or her to pull the original report and count the inclusions.

I agree with not going solely on the plot. Those are really quite useless. However, that diamond does not necessarily have to have more inclustions than are shown. An SI is not given that grading necessarily because of the quantity of inclusions, but by the nature of them. Some SIs have a single inclusion. Some have many small inclusions.

The legend isn''t there because it''s an old style cert. not based on light performance. The legend on those older certs folds out from the side, like a tri-fold.
