Hi All;
I live in NYC and I see a lot of places that say they sell diamonds cheap. I was wondering if places like Empire diamond and diamond registry are real places to get a good deal on a diamond or if they are a scam. Thank you all
You should be able to evaluate, in detail and on the spot, precisely what you are looking at, and what the going prices are for different stone specs...if you lack confidence/knowledge you will easily be spotted...it's a jungle out there!
Be smart. Only consider diamonds that have been graded by reputable, independent gemological laboratories such as the GIA, AGS or HRD. Be sure to get a proportions analysis (Sarin or OGI) prior to purchasing the diamond and compare the characteristics of the diamond you are considering to those listed here on PS to make sure that you are getting a good deal. And buy with a contingency that allows you to return the diamond if the characteristics do not check out when you have the diamond evaluated by an independent GIA Graduate Gemologist, refer to the "appraisers" link at the top of this page to find one in your area. Diamonds are a commodity, price is dependent on the characteristics, once you know what those are you can determine whether the companies you have found are being good to you or not.
