Today a client brought in a color change Garnet for an insurance appraisal. This stone is so interesting that I am posting the photo. It is a natural color change Pyrope-Spessartite Garnet, 10.16ct.

Wow, thanks for the pic. Certainly the largest CC garnet I''ve heard of of that quality.

Beautiful stone. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice colour change and surprisingly not overly dark for something over 10ct. It even has an Alexandrite-like colour change.

Norman,
Is that from the January find in Tanzania or Kenya?

Hi Harriet:

The stone came in from Madagascar a few days ago. It is something else!

Hi Norman,

I''m curious about the procedure you use in creating an insurance value for such a rare gem. What do you use as comparables? Naturally, the acquisition price creates a current market value of sorts but how do you arrive at an insurance "replacement value?" It''s not as if a person experiencing a loss can trot right out and find another stone just like the original.

It''s an amazing gem and thanks for posting. A few large CC garnets were found early on at Bekily but I''ve never heard of a clean cut stone over 10 ct. with a strong alex-like color change. Wow!

Wow. A beauty, Norman.

I''d be curious the value you attached to it as well, if it was in for appraisal. Just to add to my pricing files.

Wow, what a beauty!
