Looking at this pair of purposely mismatched artisan emerald earrings. Do you think the intentional discrepancy is charming, or will it drive you nuts? I’m on the fence whether or not to buy.

$2k. 18k gold and just under 4 ct of emeralds, treatment unknown.

Ooh, so torn! They look lovely and glowy, and I like the size, but I personally am not into the mismatch look for my own collection.

Can't speak to the emerald quality but I love the slight mismatch -- clearly handmade and clearly not the result of suboptimal workmanship. Sloppy asymmetry would bug me no end but there is a lovely and conspicuous intentionality here -- and seemingly quality workmanship -- like all the Hemmerle and similar instances (stud+drop with the colors or cuts reversed, etc.).

It looks like the emeralds are "backed" with the mounting so I infer they are pale, shallow, and probably heavily treated. First photo finally loaded for me. Yes, they are not really gem-grade emeralds but if they glow, they may work wonderfully as set.

Price: Hard to do a ton better for anything handmade and lovely, imo. You may eventually crave a gem-quality emerald.

They fit well with your avatar! (Fellow Chihuly lover)

Usually my preference is for symmetrical asymmetry - like the example above @LilAlex posted. More chaotic asymmetry bugs me. In fact, these bug me looking at them next to each other, too.

However, next to your ears, they somehow seem just right. It's something, I can't quite put my finger on it, but they look good when worn.

But girl, you've gotta get yourself some piercings if you intend to wear these. :D

I mostly agree with @Avondale above. They are not the "Platonic ideal" for look-at-me asymmetry but the "on-ear" photos work for me.

My 20-something DD would love these! And her Mom would, too.

I normally am drawn to things matching - but I find I like the look with this mounting. I like the 'honest' representation of the emeralds.

Beautiful! Wouldn't bother me in the least. My brain sees a charming mismatched match.

Heck yay.

I love them. Can't speak to pricing but they are very pretty. I would wear them in a heartbeat.

Very pretty! I'd wear them!

Thank you all for the helpful suggestions. I’m going to think about it for a few days; I like it but don’t love it.

If I pass and anyone else is interested, let me know and I can post the vendor info here.

It is down to personal preferences IMHO.

An example is this pair of drop-shaped Tahitians:

I selected these two pearls myself from a big bag of loose pearls at a vendor at Tucson 2023.

The price for the pair was affordable.

I wire-wrapped to make them into drops myself for my tiny diamond huggies.

Although they are not well-matched to some, they are good enough for me.

I have not made a pair of dangles with baroque pearls such as flames or keshis as they would be too mis-matched for my liking.

I would not get a pair of earrings with a pattern if they are not mirrored to each other, if you know what I mean.

Each to their own and all that.

DK :))

I think the colours match well, which is more important than the shapes matching imo. And I like the intentional design and subtle changes to the settings. But you should love them to buy them.

I love them. They are close enough in appearance, the emeralds have a nice glow, and they are both casual and elegant at the same time.

So very much yes!
