Purple Garnet Inclusion?

I bought this purple garnet on Etsy. Is this a big inclusion or chipped while cutting? It’s obvious on the back but on the front is difficult to capture. It looks like a clean gray cut line on the front. I like the color. It’s the shade I’ve been looking for. So if it’s an inclusion, I don’t mind. If it’s chipped, I’m worried that the whole garnet will break after awhile?

Thank you for your input!IMG_7844.jpeg

Welcome!

I can't see much of anything in those photos -- not zoomed in and not sharp. Do you have a magnifier function on your cell camera? Or a friend with an iPhone?

Thank you! The photos were taken with a iPhone 8. :). I tried to take some with iPhone 13. Hopefully the quality of the pictures are better. I don’t know why in the last photo I’m attaching here, it looks like there is a chip on the edge but I don’t feel any rough there. Maybe it’s just the lighting?IMG_0039.jpegIMG_0041.jpegIMG_0029.jpeg

These are much more helpful, thank you! Whatever type of inclusion this is, be it fingerprint or otherwise, it's surface-reaching. And since it's right on the girdle, it seems to have already caused some chipping, which I fear may worsen over time. Personally, if you can, I would move on from this gem. While lower clarity is often acceptable in emeralds, rubies, and certain types of tourmaline, etc., purple garnet should be clean. And I think you can find a nice, clean one for decent $.

It looks like a fingerprint to me.

I took it to a gemologist in a local jeweler shop. He said it’s a healthy stone but I returned it today anyways. I don’t want to keep thinking about it after it’s being set.

I think that's smart... in my personal opinion, a purple garnet should be eye clean, and you certainly don't want to see any girdle chips at the end of a fracture. I think you can find a much nicer stone at a decent price. Good luck!
