This might be a silly question but I was wondering if there is such a thing as a purple diamond?

I just checked my copy of Stephen Hofer's reference book: http://www.amazon.com/Collecting-Classifying-Coloured-Diamonds-Illustrated/dp/0965941019
Here is a little of what I found to be of interest on purple diamonds.

A pure purple in diamond is very rare and purple is much more often seen as a modifier of pink diamonds.
Purple also shows up as a modifier of red, brown, grey, and black diamonds, but not blue since that would be a violet diamond.
Purple is often confused with violet, which has more blue.

Unlike blue or yellow diamonds which get their color from boron and nitrogen impurities spread throughout the diamond, purples get their color from planes, called grain lines, of concentrated color which occur in the octahedral direction.
Cutters must pay close attention to the direction of these graining lines to optimize the strength of the purple since diamond color is graded in the face up orientation, and stronger color grade means a much higher price.

There is only one pure purple diamond in the famous Aurora Collection of 260 FCDs.
