Purchasing a loose diamond and shipping else to set?

After 6 months of searching, and 2 purchases gone wrong - I finally found the stone I really want. However, it's at a very reputable vendor that I simply do not like their settings. I have asked 3 other places with settings I like if they can get the stone and unfortunately no one can. It is such a good deal - that I really need to buy this diamond since it's an eyeclean, gia triple x, h color.

So now I will buy from one vendor and ship to another to set. Does anyone have any tips for this and any suggestions on how this might affect the return policies at both places?

Just curious, why not ship it to yourself first so you can see it and get an appraisal while it's still unset?

I don't think the diamond return policy will have anything to do with the setting. If you are going to have a setting custom made, then send it on to Victor or Stephen or whoever. But if you are buying a branded setting, then I would buy it locally. Return policies on settings will vary.
