Hey Guys,

I am trying to purchase a diamond for an E-Ring for under 6k and trying to get the best bang for my buck. Please keep in mind i know NOTHING about gems other than a few google charts I just pulled up.

Size matters more than quality (1.2+ carat) to some extent. I do not want any imperfections noticable by the naked eye and am going for more of a wow factor more than a stats factor. I could care less what the diamond looks like under a microscope I just want it to look amazing in person.

I have not looked at many diamonds in person and the ones in the store closest to me are all super high quality so I have never looked at lower quality to see the big difference.

Here are 2 rings that I quickly found. Please let me know your thoughts and I am very open to suggestions.

Nice size... but will it look bad in person?

Probably too high of quality killing the size some, but I really don''t know what I am looking at

These 2 are from the virtual inventory, with the grading report not even online, no way to roughly guess at the cut performance.

2115724240 GIA report I 1.26ct HCA = 2.4 with VGs all the way thru; maybe more brilliance / less fire?

1102968251 GIA report for the 1.51 J VS2 HCA = TIC 1.2 VG/E/E/E Looks better cut.

Backed report numbers out of the PS database using another vendor's listings. Somebody can check my math. ;-) Of those two the J more promising. Still need IS & ASET. Plus is J too tinted for you her?

Definitely go look at the best cut stones AGS or GIA graded. There are reasons why we say do not compromise on cut.

oops I had no clue

where should I be searching for a diamond then?

You can search by cut and that gives what's in house, or put in your specifications & search the in-house option. Sorry, gotta run.

I would perfer the larger diamond of course if you think it would look awesome in person...

on the GIA report it says - Fluorescence: Strong Blue - that is a good thing right?

Please let me know your thoughts

fluor, as long as it it not over-blue, only a small % does that, which gives the stone an oily/hazy look in the presence of UV light, it is a matter of personal preference, some like it some don''t.

If you are flexible on color and clarity and want size and "wow" factor (sparkle), here's a Crafted by Infinity 1.28 I I1 (branded superideal cut) from Wink at High Performance Diamonds that is $5222. With wire discount, it'll cost a little under that. No fluorescence.

I own a 1.0 carat I I1 Infinity diamond that I bought from Wink. You'll want to check to make sure the diamond is eyeclean to your standards (Wink can make a video for you). Mine is eyeclean, but each stone is different. The inclusion plot looks scary, I know, but if those crystals are clear, you could have yourself a bargain price for the size.

The pic of that I1 1.28ct Infinity looks scary enough, lol. Big black blobs?

That big J VS2 has a comment "Internal graining is not shown." Be sure to have some eyes check that out. Graining can be dark or whiteish.

wouldnt the picture on the website with the GIA show any of this graining? How come you have to see it in person to see this?

ok, I am totally confuse about which stones you guys are talking about now.

oops sorry I was looking at a picture of a different diamond... i guess there is no posted picture of the 1.5 carat diamond online

Yeah, I love the I1 underdogs, HVVS! But my stone has crystals as the primary inclusion (smaller, more scattered) so I know if they're clear, there's a good chance that the diamond will pass muster from standard viewing distance. Paul is pretty picky about what goes in his brand, too, so that inspires my confidence that this could be a great stone for the price.

This stone definitely needs an idealscope image, a relatively shallow pavilion, with a small lower half and G symm grade might result in significant obstruction issue.

this is the one we are talking about

Hi Kha

The diamond could be perfectly alright, but due to the shorter lower girdle facets plus possible rounding issues there is a chance the diamond might show some obstruction which is visible darkening of the stone when viewed closely. This is caused by the viewer''s head or body blocking the light to the diamond. If this vendor can supply an Idealscope image plus inspect the diamond for you then that would be helpful.
