I've been looking for the past few weeks now (round solitare) and have decided which store I will be buying from. However, the more important question is: What ring do I pick?

My budget is about $6,000. The girl is NOT high maintence; however, I know that size is an important attribute to her.

Therefore, I think I found the best "big" stone I can buy: EGL-USA, 1.5, G, SI2, with a very good cut for about $5,800. The jewler is getting the stone in tomorrow and I get to see it in person. My concerns for this ring are: 1. Worried that it may be more yellow than I am comfortable with and 2. SI2 is pretty low and being a EGL-USA SI2 worreis be even more.

The other possible route is a smaller yet, "better" ring. 1.35, G, VS2, with a very good or execellent cut. Not sure of the certificate. Either EGL-USA or GIA. For $6,000. I've seen this in person and the "fire" was very very nice.

As stated above, I haven't seen the 1.5 in person yet, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions.

Do you know measurements of the 2 diamonds? Sometimes more carat doesn''t mean bigger measurements. As far as i know a better cut diamond would look bigger comparing to one with the same size but poorer cut.

I don''t know about your GF but I think most girls don''t care about carat so much than how big the diamond looks. So you might want to balance between carat/measurements/cut. Good luck!

I think the size difference between these two stones is small enough that the other qualities should make up your mind for you... the 1.35 will look bigger if it is more brilliant. And don''t worry at all about the G color, that''s still very good. Even a high-maintenance girl probably wouldn''t complain about that!

Good luck! If you''re still on the fence, see if you can find a stone with stats similar to the 1.5 ct in a store just to see what it looks like in person.

EGL is known to be looser in grading color and clarity, so I would want to get it independently appraised loose if I am considering it.

EGL USA are said to be the strongest of the EGL labs however I would make any sale final on the diamond checking out as sold with an independant appraisal. Here is the appraisal tool.

We would need all the info for both diamonds in order to get an idea of the cut quality.

Given the rest of your comments please enlighten us as to the benefits of using this vendor? Forgive me but IMHO deciding on a store first seems a bit bassackwards here. Especially since they don''t seem to carry or reccomend they type of stones you are looking for.
