Just an update. I called the jeweler and explained all my research, and my other options of much better diamonds that can be found (did not mention this was online).

They offered to sell the diamond at 6000.

Ding ding ding.

I would return it and not go back to the same store; they basically just admitted to ripping you off.

Exactly haha, thats why I used the tongue smiley.

I just called again and told them I will be dropping the ring off today for a refund. I talked to a diamond consultant on LiveChat on WF and they can have a ring assembled for me by Saturday.

WOW! Thats incredibly fast work! Good for you, you really won't be disappointed with WF! I think that your really making a great decision, and I think that the fact that your vendor offered to take $2000 off the diamond you already purchased would be grounds for me not to use them to purchase ANY stone from. I guess I'm saying I wouldn't even go back to compare GIA stones! :angryfire:

BTW I'm going to go back and remove my link to BGD if it's not too late. lol If you really are interested though I'll repost it.

EDIT: I was able to remove the link, stones that are recommended often have a way of being bought up by lurkers, so if you would like me to link again I will but if your not interested I'll keep it for myself. lol

Thanks Christina :)

Please feel free to provide any WF recommendations based on my new budget. I am trying to read up on the PS articles on diamonds while trying to take calls at work! 2 more hours and I can check PS more often also while checking WF.

I'll take a look for you right now while I have a few free minutes.

Have you talked to Brian Gavin? I believe they're closed on Saturdays, open on Sundays btw. That one Dancing Fire posted is gorgeous.

WF has a bit higher prices, because the BG one has fluorescence - you get a discount for the cool blue effect in clubs - plus it helps the diamond face up whiter.

But here goes for WF!

Go slightly below 1 ct for a lower price :

If you can go up $800 - here's another i color at 1 carat

This one is similar with a slightly lower depth

Argh - I keep coming back to that BGD one...all of the WF ones seem to have this ring of light leakage on the Idealscopes - ALL of them. Am I crazy, or is this a special feature of WF diamonds? ;) Someone who knows rounds better, please weigh in.

Compare the idealscope to the BGD:

Leakage gets less on the ACA - A cut above one at $7k:

Does BGD photoshop their images? I gotta ask after seeing the idealscopes, because I suspected they photoshopped arrows on the Quadex. Way too crisp black arrows...

Edit - don't get me wrong - those WF ones are still 100% better than the current one you have or what any normal person has ever seen! ;)

Hey Pricescopers,

Just wanted to thank every one who posted for all the help. I went with the BG blue that dancing fire posted. What an awsome deal! The fluorescence really helped in bringing the price down compared to WF's as webdiva stated. Denise from BG agreed that the diamond faces up really white and should be very eye clean. The price came out to about the same as listed price of diamond on their site with the Tiffany band included. Which is VERY well in my budget. What also helped is taxes - it is being shipped to San Francisco (no taxes) during our vacation which is where I plan to propose on the Coit tower after a nice dinner.

Thank you webdiva! I have added these things to our itinerary list :) and yes everyone I will provide pictures as soon as possible.

Have fun! If you don't make reservations at Bourbon & Branch, use the password "library" to get into the back room. All of their juices are fresh squeezed and everything is made fresh! So much fun. 1920s style, it's above a real speakeasy from back in the day, with bullets in the wall. The waitresses are dressed like flappers! Seriously awesome experience, great for after the proposal!

Hey everyone,

It happened. :) I decided to let it come at the right opportunity. I really had her going the past few weeks where I told her that we wouldnt be engaged til next year. So as we are out adventuring one day in SF, we stopped for a picture so we asked a nearby local to take the picture. I then pulled a ring from my backpack while the local took a good number of shots. This one of my favorite as she was still posing and smiling from the picture. She had NO idea what was about to happen. :)

This ring is so sparkly I cannot capture any good photos of it with my Canon point and shoot camera. A friend of mine with a 60d will take some better photos and I will upload them soon. thanks again everyone and BGD!

Wow. Good job PSers. And good job Chon79 for listening. You saved a bundle of cash and looks like you're now happily engaged. Congrats.

I love this picture! I can't wait to see the ring too!
Congrats to you both, you look so cute together.

BEst choice the Brian Gavin BLUE! Congrats! Your pic gave me goose bumps! Tell your friends to come to PS FIRST! and the girls in here will find them the best stone in less than a day! LOL!

Awww look at that picture!! Such a great job by our PSers here! I'm so happy they were able to find you such a gorgeous stone (I adore Florescence too!) that worked so well for your budget and desires!!!!! And I'm so happy that your original stone has a refund policy (so many times people buy without one and as you can see it's VITAL to have a refund policy).

That picture is worth a million bucks. Congratulations on your engagement. We would love handshots when you can get them, of course.

Congrats!!! Awesome choice! Hand shots! :)

Did you enjoy SF?
