Purchase diamond then bring to jeweler to get set??

Excuse the stupidity...I''m probably purchasing a diamond thru Whiteflash. I''ve found an A. Jaffe setting that I like. After I receive the diamond from Whiteflash, I bring it to a jewler who carries A. Jaffe''s line to have it set? I''m nervous about giving them my diamond. How is the consumer protected from the old bait and switch? I''m scared to have it in my hands let alone someone elses. Please inform.

If you are really worried, you could get the stone appraised and insured on its own before handing it over to be set. I had the same question, and others here said that there is little reason to worry if you go with a reputable jeweler. In the meantime, you should familiarize yourself with the inclusions in your diamond by looking through it on a loupe and comparing it to the certificate before you drop it off. Then once it''s set, make sure to re-examine the stone again to be sure it''s yours. Good luck!

You should get your diamond appraised first anyway. At the appraisal session, most appraisers will be able to point out things about your stone that make it unique and allow you to recognize it quickly and easily. I even include photomicrographs of exactly what to look for.

A. Jaffe is fairly picky about their dealer network. There is a very low risk of a jeweler stealing your diamond in the first place but this risk goes down even further if you are talking about an A. Jaffe authorized reseller. This is not a particularly easy line for stores to get and they are very aware of the affect that their choices in retailers has on their reputation.
