Pulled the trigger on this 1.85ct RB

Good morning, Rocky Talkers! I didn't get any feedback in my other thread on this one, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger since it seems to tick all the boxes and is fully refundable. 1.85 carat, G, VVS2, Faint Flor., HCA of 1.8 priced at $16,900. It will be going directly to my local jeweler for appraisal, but I'm hoping its a winner. I didn't expect to find a stone with these color and clarity grades in my size and price ranges, so crossing my fingers that it's not too good to be true. If it is "the one", I intend to have it set in a six prong knife edge (Tiffany like) solitaire setting...thinking 1.7-1.8 mm since I am going for a delicate look.

Would love to hear any of your expert opinions, one way or the other. Thanks!

The images they provided are hearts and arrow images, not light return images. The stone looks to have nice symmetry and cut. The 36 crown angle is slightly higher and will make for a fiery stone - it pairs well with a 40.6 pavilion angle, but because of GIA rounding, it could be higher so we do like to see an IS or ASET to see what's going on under the table. Could they provide either of those?

Thanks for your input, @ac117 . Unfortunately, they did not have IS or ASET to provide. Is that a red flag? And is this something my jeweler can provide me once the diamond arrives?

You can buy your own Idealscope or ASET scope and take it to your jeweler to look at your diamond once it arrives if your jeweler doesn’t have either one of them.

We recommend using a truly independent appraiser. One with nothing to gain or lose from the transaction.

If you want your jeweler to just provide the setting and set the stone, that's different. Just be sure they that they do set outside stones, for how much $, and be sure you have insurance on it in case of damage during the setting process. (Many jewelers do not cover damage to stones purchased elsewhere).

Last, please come back with pictures when you get it!!

Thanks so much for this info! We actually just decided to have it set by the seller since I am looking for a fairly simple setting that they can accommodate. I feel like our local jeweler gets enough of our business outside this purchase that he shouldn't be biased, but I hadn't considered that...great tip! Will definitely find a third party independent appraiser.

I just wanted to update with a link and video of the diamond I ordered. I wracked my brain with diamond research for this purchase and I realize that the specs are on the borderline and that without images I can't really have a good idea of what to expect until I see it, but it is fully returnable if it falls short of my expectations. It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and we have an appointment with an independent appraiser (thanks for the tip, @ringo865 ). Fingers crossed!

While not a true Hearts and Arrows diamond (due to clefts in some of the hearts and asymmetries in some of the chevrons) it does look quite nice!

It does look to be a very nice stone. Sorry I missed your earlier question but you're doing the right thing by viewing it in person and taking it to an independent appraiser. Come back with pics!

I think it looks good from those pics. It may have a little leakage based on the crown angle being a bit high, but just look at it in various lighting situations and see if it is bright all over or if it is less bright in the center.

It's a firey Ideal Cut, and still within the AGS ideals. I don't suspect obvious leakage based on what I can see but the stone is definitely optimized for fire.

Thank you all! I am seriously loving it! I was hesitant at first and wanted to take some time to really look at it in as many lighting scenarios as possible before I let myself fall for it. It really is stunning...such an improvement over my first diamond. Took it to the jeweler for appraisal and of course it sparkled like mad in there. He had nothing but positive things to say about it and appraised it at about double what we paid!? Is that common? It also came with an appraisal from the seller at just over 30% more than we paid. I assumed the appraisals would be about the same, with the one from the seller being higher if anything?

Anyway, here are a couple more pics I snapped after reading the tips (still not great seeing as I’m using an iPhone 7). Thank you all for your help! If it wasn’t for this site, we likely would have ended up with a sub-par diamond or paid way too much at Tiffany.

You really dont want an appraisal that is too high. The one you got from the appraiser is a "feel good" appraisal. The one from the seller is more
of an appraisal for insurance. However, I think its still a little high for insurance. You dont want to pay insurance on cost + 30% (or 2Xcost like
the one from the appraiser). I would want more like cost +10-15% (for me). All depends on how your insurance company pays out.

It's not easy to find a good stone at a great value that you absolutely love. Insurance should be for a replacement value, and your stone with the specs won't be easy to replace at the price you paid.

Where is the stone from?

I purchased through Adiamor, but it was also listed on Fourmine. Not sure if it was listed anywhere else. Setting is from Adiamor as well (https://www.adiamor.com/Engagement-...ire-Engagement-Ring-Setting/14KWhiteGold/1870), but customized to 1.8 mm with softened prongs. They did a lovely job.

It's beautiful kaycee! Your photos are great! For more photo ideas, try standing under a tree - not in shade, but where the light is filtering thru the leaves. Play around under there. You'll get lots of colors reflecting around.
