So I reset my original stone in another setting to bring some life to it. Originally it was set in a plain white gold tension setting. Then after 12 years I decided to have a halo made which I loved when I first saw it. After wearing it a while I realize that I just don't love the shape of the stone anymore. I do like the added sparkle but the setting feels just okay to me. It is sort of an elongated princess cut. Small at .43 it was what we could afford at the time. While it is pretty, it is not amazing but holds a lot of sentimental value. So for a while I have not been wearing the the ring at all. Especially after receiving my second BGD bezel band that I stack with other bands and is more practical for my line of work anyway.

So what do I do?

1. Leave it in the jewelry box and wear it every once in a while? It's not worth spending the extra money.

2. Reset in a plain bezel and wear more like a stacking ring?

3. Reset in a bezel pendant ala DBTY or BGD barbara but square? If I did this I would really want rounded edges. I don't like the sharp corners of the princess anymore.

4. Resent in a bezel bracelet ala DBTY? Rounded edges.

5. What are you talking about it is a great ring. Be grateful.

I have always worn white metals. Then out of the blue decided I wanted to wear warmer tones so my everyday necklaces are now in yellow gold. If I change this to a pendant or bracelet do I go yellow? or rose? what I am liking right now? Or do I go with good old classic white metal... safe? If I did go necklace or bracelet it is something I would never take off except for a cleaning.

I hate having one of the few diamonds I own just sitting...

Thoughts? Come on PSers... I know its small but you all are so creative help me out please! I will try and load some pics so we know what we are dealing with.

xoxo

I think it's beautiful and I love the current setting. I would leave it as is.

It looks pretty as is. But if you'd like to give it a makeover, I like the idea of a plain bezel stack ring (though I'm concerned that it would look too big). Have you considered finding its twin and have them set into dangling earrings?

BTW, did you know you can create a poll? Think you'd need to create a new thread first (then scroll to the bottom to enter poll details).

=)

I would never tell you number 5. It is beautiful, but if its not for you its not for you and you should do whatever you want to make it fit.

I think a thin bezel would be nice, like the sholdt bezel, but to make it more of a stacked look id probably set it e/w

I was thinking the Lola.

I stack it from your base up plain band, bezel band, engagement ring, bezel band

I have no advice, but I wanted to tell you your ring is very pretty, I have a princess cut and I would love to that kind of setting for mine...good luck in deciding what you want to do.

PS I also understand not liking the shape as much, I am not in love with mine...but I cannot afford to replace it, so I just live with it :(sad

I think the halo makes it a great size and it goes so well with your bands! Of course you can wear gold chains and other fashion jewelry with white gold rings! You don't need to change your wedding set as gold trends change. They are perfect as they are!

Here is woofmama's gorgeous Sholdt with her stone E/W. I think it would be lovely to do something similar with your stone.

Awww Thanks Dee! Here's my SMTB thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ec-in-sholdt-semi-bezel-pearlmans-pics.180994/

The setting looks amazing with princess cut stones. I tried on the sample ring with the princess and it was TDF! Here's the link to the exact setting at Pearlmans: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/sholdt-jewelry/rings/10ZZ1/

My setting is 18WG but they make YG,RG and Plat. Pearlmans does a PS discount and were a pleasure to work with.
I love my setting, the workmanship is perfect. Even if I eventually upgrade my diamond I will have it set in this setting :))

IMO, it works beautifully with your stack of bands! the halo makes it appear larger than it is (DUH! ... silly Enerchi!!) but it is well balanced and proportioned on your hand and it really is gorgeous on you. (not what you wanted to here, tho, is it?)

If you really want to remake it, I really like the idea of a pendant - and it looks so good in the RG! Can you just have the halo/head removed and somehow mounted as is, on a decorative bail and chain in RG not YG, so you have a variety of metals? Maybe layer a few necklaces? (or is that passe now?)

It is lovely... :))

Hathalove I just went back and saw the ct weight you have. I don't think it would work in the Sholdt. The setting would overwhelm the diamond. My diamond is 1.11ct. with dimensions of 6.24 x 5.71.

I think a simple prong set east west would look awesome and very cool with your stack. how about having it set into a band style ring with two smaller princess sides. Still E-W and set low? Hard to describe but what I'm picturing in my head is cool, lol!

Are you married? If so, the square shape lends itself very well to a men's ring, so maybe your DH would like to wear it.

My second vote was already mentioned, to set it in a pendant or the DBTY bracelet but in the halo it's already in to give the rounded corners. You said you would wear it every day then so I think these options give the most wear out of it.

You've already tried a ring, so resetting it into a different one would be my last choice as it still may not change your view on the stone.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I think your ring is gorgeous and looks amazing with your stacking bands. Seriously, it looks so pretty and quite substantial on your hand. I'm a little  as to why you don't like it. If I had a pretty sparkly like this I would want to wear it where I could see it all the time.

But, with all that said...if it's sitting in your jewelry box and not being worn, I guess you really just don't like it and using it in a pendant would make sense. If you truly think you'll wear it more as a pendant, then that's the way to go. And I think it's fine to wear different metals together.

I love that setting! But if you're not going to wear it often, could you turn it into a pendant WITH that particular halo? It would make an awesome blingy pendant.

First off can I say thank you for taking the time with me. I was so reluctant. Not really sure why. I was on here a while back and took a break so it is nice to get so much support from classic Psers like DS2006 Enerchi wood mama and Neil!

I think it's great that you all think it is pretty. Thinking on it further I realize I just want a gigantic round that I can't afford. And in my line of work not sure I ever will be able too lol. This is a tiny stone and to be honest the halo does make it look bigger and I like that extra umf for it. I also like the rounded edges because from far away in the sun it looks more like a cushion (grasping here).

I love the bezels that were suggested especially the lola but I love it cause its round big and thin!

I think it's ironic how you all think an east/west setting would look great because that is what I had for 12 years. I was cutting edge back then..lol. I am going to attach the pics so you have an idea. I actually did love it for a long time until I wanted something bigger most recently. I also fell out of love with the thickness of the ring and all the metal against a small stone. Know what I mean?

I think what bugs me the most and i would not have noticed if it werent for PS was the lack of quality in the current setting. Prongs are not the same size, the halo doesnt look even, the shank sides dont look even. By the time i overanalized it it was too late to correct with original maker. Honestly if it was PERFECTLY done i would probably still love it and enjoy wearing it. However, I am grateful to have a ring at all I suppose.

Oh !!! I guess your previous ring looks so similar to this,
but i love THIS stone (kevnic80's) in it's *tension* (?) setting....
I would love this and it would be such a nice ring to stack with....

It's really beautiful in the halo but I agree it would be lovely in a bezel.

Junebug 17 and Enerchi, That is exactly what I DO want to hear! Sometimes the grass is greener and the little green monster takes hold... It helps me to pause and practice the art of enjoying what I have. It also helps me to relax a little more and give myself time to figure out what I really want. Maybe it is exactly what is... but not jumping so quickly onto a reset/remake/toss away road.

Woofmama you are right. It is just too small for that kind of setting. Your ring is AMAZING!!!! So beautiful. Just no comparison at all..

oooShiney I think if I went back to that style my husband would be like WTH?! It is beautiful but no longer what I am drawn to.

Aprilbaby and Niel and those who liked the idea of a bezel were you thinking of the kind of ring Niel posted? BGD has a full bezel too that is half the price maybe but it does have a thicker shank? Just curious...

Just wanted to add that Shimmer brings up a good point of already trying a reset... So if I am going to change it ...change it to a pendant.
The reason it will get more wear is I will simply put it on and leave it on. Like my other necklaces. I don't take things on and off. So be default it would get more wear. When a ring is on your finger you constantly stare at it. know what I mean?

Shimmer/ Enerchi / junebug/ maccers.. If I did convert it to a pendant, I don't really like the bail idea? I do like the way the BGD barbara is built where the chain feeds through the inside and hangs or maybe with ears east west like DBTY style? So if I keep the current setting and just chop it do you think it would look good on rose gold chain with all the white?

Any suggestions on who can build that for me easily?

I think you could have a RG chain and seeing other RG things you have, it works so PERFECTLY with your skin tone, it would make this look like its floating even more so than the regular Barbara design already does!!

You can have that remade with no bail, I'm sure (but I'm no jeweller...) Do you have a good local bench? could you send it back to whoever made it for you and ask them? or do you prefer a PS vendor? It might be more affordable to go thru IDJ - Yekutiel is very good with alterations....

Hathalove- I absolutely did not mean to say your diamond was too small. I would never say anything hurtful to anyone, I just think, having the setting that the Sholdt does kind of swallow the entire sides of the stone. From the side my setting is entirely metal.I hope I didn't come across as negative. With my size stone it was a stretch having it in the setting I chose. I think Sholdt only recommends a 1ct or larger for this setting. Funny but your original setting looks very much like the Sholdt anyway. I guess if you had been in love with it you would have kept it set that way. :))
I hear ya on the green is always greener! I am happy with my ring but see things on here everyday that I *think* I would love more. My ring was done on a tight budget and I spend hours looking at larger EC's and asschers on JA. Feeling like I *have* to upgrade. It can be a slippery slope. Many days I have to talk myself off the upgrade cliff ;))
My point is if you love your ring wear it and enjoy it! I think it's very pretty. If you have reset it from the bezel to a halo then something about halo's spoke to you. :))

Woofmama. I absolutely didn't take it that way at all. I actually appreciate your feedback! Those were the words I was using. Not negative at all. You are right. Why would I go back to something that I wanted to move away from. Lol. Plus I do like how this makes the stone look bigger.

I think in the end I am deciding to wear it longer just as is. Give it a chance to shine in the ways that some of you already see it. If I still hate it in a few months I will reconsider.

Which if your not over it already can you ladies suggest how I wear it with the other bands? Should I take one band away? Maybe the order can enhance it in a way where everyone gets to shine? Posted more pics for opinions.

Hathalove :)) Glad I didn't offend you.

So the pics you just posted of new rings stacked in the sun are beautiful! Very feminine and sparkly :lickout:
I think you have many options but of what you posted I like option #1.

YUMMY!! I like 2&3... but 1 & 4 are pretty sweet!! Gee - looks like ALL the options are perfect!

Oh I like 2 and 4!

i like 1 and 4 best.

I understand about overanalyzing. Some of the the things you mention could probably be easily fixed. Prongs can be evened out, and possibly if the shank is not quite the same width on either side they may be able to even that out as well. Maybe that would help a little bit in your feelings towards it? I like it better in the halo and think you are right that it sort of "rounds" it out a little.

You might also try it with ering-blingy band-wring (only one blingy band) and so have the bling band flanked by the 2 plain shanks.

Another option that might look good is number 2 above, but move the band thats on top down to the bottom so you get ering-bling-wband-bling....

Or do we like bastetcat's suggestion the most. Maybe 4 rings is too many and 3 look best? I know you all are over this. I will go away after this. Lol.

I really love it. It goes fabulously with your lovely bands.

Love it. Love it. Love it.
