Greetings all,
First of all I would like to thank all of those who post to PS over the years......I will give a quick recap and then get to my question below. I have a local B&M store in Toronto that posts prices on their website...and I was eyeing a 1.02ct round diamond for the past 8 months....but then I stumbled across this site.....and the rest is history...the diamond had scored a 5.2 on HCA and I lost many nights of sleep and just didn''t want to accept the possiblity that my Ex/Ex/Ex GIA was not all cracked out to be......so I listened to the good fokes here and kept an open mind. In the end, I worked with another B&M that offered me the same Ex/Ex/Ex GIA slightly bigger at 1.06 and a better clarity of VS1 as opposed to VS2.....and the best part it was a 2.5 on HCA....I love the diamond and I had the best night sleep since finding this......
THANK YOU ALL, YOU KNOW WHO U ARE!!!
So here is what I need help with now PS: Now that I found the stone, I''m looking at a simple setting, 4 prong setting and about 2.5mm ring that gradually pinches to about 2.0mm near the basket. She wears a 4 1/2 size. Here is my dilema, WG vs Platinum....I''ve a lot of posts and understand the difference, I know for a fact that my gf prefers WG (I''ve bought her a platinum necklace from tiffany before with a solitaire diamond) she loves it nonetheless but she does say the chain is too dull for her (as would be expected), So here are my questions:
1) Many have suggested that 18K WG with a platinum prong setting will do the trick, (My jeweller doesn''t work with palladium) does anyone have any advice against this? anyhting I should know?
2) Given the measurements I stated above, does anyone think that the band is too thin for WG ? (obviously handling and Care is a big factor)
3) If I buy the WG and down the road decide that Platinum was the way to go, is there a bigger danger on removing the stone when the prongs are WG vs Platinum (If its set with a WG band and Platinum prongs)? (I''ve read somewhere something about head the band and it needing a higher temp for the platinum vs. the WG...not sure what that had to do with.
Help anyone,
Much appreciated.
