Home PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

puffy: have fun in vegas--should be interesting traveling with 2 for sure! And good thing you're so nice, otherwise I'd have to hate you for dropping pant sizes when you are already so tiny!! Jealous! Great job though--I guess gyms and 2 mobile little ones really does work, hehe.

lili: awwww she is so grown up now!! Is that an Elmo cake? I can't believe all the kiddies are turning 2 around the same time!

So C's 18 month appt went ok...although she continues to detest shots. I just hate how I have to hold her arms back while she writhes and screams with no sound, it is just awful. Luckily she recovers quickly and no side effects tonight. Glad the whole vaccination schedule is winding down at last.

As for measurements, I'm not confident the nurse did them right (we all know it is not an exact science), but she came in at 31.5 for height (45%), 21 8oz for weight (15%). That's a big jump from just 2 mo's ago when she was 30 1/4? Ah well, in any case guess she'll be 5'3
2.gif
. Her weight has always been on the lower end, but very consistent in the rate she gains. The pedi was a new one since ours is on maternity leave. He was very old school and lax and told me the bottle was ok till about 18mos-2. Hmmm, well at least it made me feel a little less panicked.

Janine
C''s stat is almost exactly the same as J''s when she was 18 months.
You never know....they can sprout that much in that short time.
Look at A...I think she sprouted like 3 inches since her last appt?

Thanks...they do grow up so faat huh?
I remember like it was yesterday when I found out that I''m preggo, now here''s a 2 yo little rascal fighting w/ us on every little thing.
She is refusing her teeth brushing right now after having eaten a piece of her bday cake.
Yep, almost a week and we are still working on it.
It was a tiramisu cake w/ 2 elmo candles -- no real theme.

aw lili, I love the avatar pic and the one with the b-day cake. you all are making me feel guilty that I don''t have anything other that having family over for dinner for Jake. At least he''ll get a cake and a few presents
41.gif

Lili - love the bday picture!

Tacori - congrats on grad school. That''s so exciting.

DD - Thanks for weighing in; that''s exactly what I was wondering. There is a part of me that would like to drop the noon pumping so that I can workout then instead of juggling workout with other responsbilities once I get home (office has a gym and showers), but I guess I''ll stick with the pumping for now and then play by ear.

We had G''s birthday party yesterday, and I think that the party on his actual birthday (Wednesday) will consist of us putting him to bed early and then getting out the booze.
5.gif
Yesterday was "just" family, but that came out to 20 people. It was also the first time that my mom and dad were at a family function together since I believe my wedding, and they both brought dates (mom''s SO is like a third grandpa to G), and it was remarkably drama free considering. We now need to figure out where to put all of the toys.

CAKE. (We removed clothes and glasses first.)

georgecake.jpg

lili great pic of J...looks like she''s deciding which part of the cake to devour first.

blen george is so cute!!! looks like he enjoyed the cake.

Tacoru Wonderful news! Try to enjoy your time and not get too stressed about the work and your grades. Grad school is soooo different than undergrad. You will have a blast as long as you don''t let it get to you.

Blen I was very sad when he weaned himself, but now that he is weaned it is kind of nice not having to deal with it to be honest
2.gif

lili J is a real beauty, she looks so grown up in her photo!

Lili, J is so beautiful! Love your new AV and the cake photo you posted.

Puffy, thanks! A new chapter in my life is about to start. Good luck in Vegas.

Janine, T''s 18 month height measurement was TOTALLY off. Haha. I only knew this b/c her 2 year height was a few inches less. What can I say? She is a wiggle worm. I know she is growing b/c her pants get shorter.

MrsS, awww...Jake will NEVER remember his 2nd b-day. No guilt my friend.

Blen, thanks I am excited. Love G''s cake picture. THAT is what they are suppose to look like.
30.gif

DD, I am planning on taking 3 classes for the summer session. Hopefully that is not a suicide mission since they are pretty intense on a shorter schedule. I am sure I WILL stress b/c that''s the type of person I am but I will remind myself to enjoy the ride
2.gif
I was sad and shocked when T weened herself. Mostly b/c she was so young but there is freedom to know you are no longer their food source (at least there was for me). Plus it was nice not to have to worry about clogs, pumping, leaking, etc.

We went over the the ILs for Easter lunch. Did a little egg hunt for T. She loved it and was so excited everything she found an egg. Hopefully now she will take a long nap. Happy Easter.

Hope everyone had a good easter--we survived ours at least with a full day at the IL''s!

C did well and loves her cousins (in past she was kind of indifferent) but still really not too comfortable with MIL/FIL. She doesn''t see them enough but what can you do. Oh and then DH was holding her and they said "oh where''s C''s daddy?" and she pointed at BIL! Twice! Poor DH...I mean of course she knows who he is and pointed and said "there" very firmly once we were home, but Dh wasn''t too happy. Ahh kids. She looked cute in her Easter dress though and found lots of eggs :).

Tacori: that''s a lot of classes, you go girl. I can''t believe you''re starting so soon, May''s not far away. Ihope you still have time to post here! Oh and love all the Columbia pics--do you think you would go back as a vacation destination? I know a few people who are going this year.

Hey mommies!! Things have been a bit crazy around here (trying to find a place to live, packing, got a new car, ect). Just wanted to pop in and say hello!

lili~That pic of J is adorable! I just love her!

Tgal~Just like we though-T and A''s stats are so similar. Tall skinny girls we have!

Blen~So cute!! Happy birthday to G!

Tacori~Good to have you back.

K is being a total fuss right now and I need to get my house picked up because I am hosting a volleyball meeting this afternoon and we have Easter crap everywhere!! Hope you are all doing well and had a great Easter!

lili, not sure how that girl gets prettier and prettier! Great pic and I hope you''ll have more pics on her actual birthday! So many turn 2 this week...Jadie is the 7th, Jake is 8th and Co is the 9th, if I''m not mistaken?

Janine, Chloe is petite and precious!

Blen, that is a great pic of G and his cake! Happy birthday to him, I can''t believe he is one already. Time flies fast...I am always surprised to see that the PS babies are growing up!

Tacori, I''m proud of you girl...I know you can do those classes AND excel. I''m really excited for you.

Burk, I know we do have tall girls. Yes, if the "rule" holds, Amelia will be 6''2". I obviously hope not, but it is what it is and hey, nothing I can do to make her tall or short so I might as well love every inch of her!

Amelia''s party went super well. The kids had a smashing time, including my own. Adults all loved the food and it was a fast 3 hours. I was exhausted by it all, for sure.

Amelia has hit 2 full force. Not sure if it''s a coincidence that her grandparents are here (although they are pretty good about being consistent with her like I am) but BOY OH BOY, it''s like some internal clock clicked and she decided to go full on terrible two. She''s getting really vocal and stubborn. Much more than before. Tantrums are also ramping up. It''s taking more and more out of me to rein her in, and so far I am on top but I am just pooped at the end of the day. Especially since TGuy and I are sleeping in the living room on an airmattress and I really have nowhere to hide and get some detox time. I''m back to work this week and am pretty happy to hide out in my office and do work. Even though my ILs are awesome, there are just more things to do, more mouths to feed and tons more dishes to do (I don''t use a dishwasher). My MIL has been doing a bit of cleaning though, so it helps, but I feel bad. I''m taking the help because there''s just no way I can keep up.

Anyway speaking of my tall girl, here she is. I know we don''t post pics on the toddler thread, but thought I''d post this one because you can''t really see her face. It''s from her birthday party and she loved the balloons we had here and there.

hello to all the mommies and a huge happy bday to all the one and two year olds!
36.gif

love the pictures blen and tgal :) amelia is definitely a tall girl - she looks older than 2, but i''m sure you get that all the time. i have a feeling my little one is going to be the same way, he''s been 90-95% for height since his first pedi appt and was 31" at his 12 month checkup

i''ve been MIA - on vacation and then dealing with everything that piles up at work AFTER vacation. been lurking though, and it''s nice to see all the PS toddies and moms are doing well.

btw, i think i need to POAS asap....i''m late and i''m nauseous. yikes!

yay for a successful birthday party for amelia! And sounds like she''s entering her 3rd year with a bang--oh boy Tgal, you might have a handful! I wonder if a switch does go off at age 2--guess we''lll see with the others coming up! Love the picture, she looks adorable and really, not a little girl anymore (not just in height, overall!!).

so on a different topic, a newly pregnant friend of mine (about 6 mo''s preggo) is telling me how she is planning a trip to Europe next year since traveling with a baby will be easy and they haven''t had an international trip in awhile. I had to laugh...so naive.

lili, awww J is such a cutie! I love your new avi!

Blen, happy first birthday G! That picture is awesome!

janine, I always think it''s great when parents can travel with their little ones. DH and I rather not. I guess we''re lazy and just rather not deal with it.

sbde, oooo exciting! So when are you going to go POAS!? Keep us posted! Were you trying?

TGal, glad A''s party was a success!

Lots of 2nd birthday''s this week! So hard to believe they are 2 already!

Tacori You will do great. Life will change in so many ways, but it is all for the best in the long run!

Tgal A is really tall! she looks much more mature than any other 2 year olds I know. Why don''t you use your dish washer? Or do you not have one?

Janine I think if you are cosleeping and BFing full time it is easy to travel with a baby... but I don''t think I would want to do it
2.gif

SBDE I am late this month too! I think things are starting up today but it is very odd. I am worried, because this would *not* be good timing at all. Pray for my visitor, please!

sbde, yes I get that she looks older than she is all the time. It''s hard because people expect her to respond in a more mature way. But no big deal once I let them know she''s two. She was as tall as a 3 year old girl at the party.

Janine, I agree with DD that if one was to co-sleep and BF, it wouldn''t be that bad. I did neither, but Amelia was still manageable on her trip to Australia. In fact, I found the bottle easier. Biggest difference was that I was at my ILs house which had a kitchen. If I were to travel to a destination and had a kitchen, I think it would be fine. I wouldn''t do a hotel room though!

DD, I don''t use a dishwasher because while we don''t have one, I don''t see the point in it most of the time (so we store stuff in it). By the time you rinse stuff off and load it, you could be done with handwashed dishes. Plus I didn''t grow up with it, and prefer to do things by hand. I know, I''m old fashioned and stubborn. I do see how it would come in handy for large parties and what not. Plus our dishwasher doesn''t exactly seem quality nor efficient.

And yes, Amelia does look a bit more mature, but I think it''s because she''s thin and doesn''t have much baby fat.
5.gif

TGal, post away! I am not against pictures in this thread at all. I personally just became uncomfortable with sharing them since she no longer looks like a generic baby. A is such a little lady. I would love to be a tall woman (says the shortie) so I think it is great! Use that dishwasher girl! They are amazing. Haha. I kinda think T is getting a little easier as she approaches 2.5. She did have a kind of all tantrums today but she is really understanding us which helps cut some frustration on both of our parts. So stick with it. The fog will lift.

Janine, Colombia is a beautiful country! We went to Cartagena (been there twice now) and it is a resort city. It is right on the ocean so they cater to tourists. The wedding was in a city called Bucaramanga. Also a nice city but not as tourist friendly. There are surrounding villages which are fun to visit though. It is in the mountains. Where are your friends going? I have also been to a few smaller cities. I cannot believe I am starting in a few months either but am thrilled I don''t have to wait until September. BTW every photo of a man T sees she says he is daddy and every woman is mommy. I guess that is 100% normal so don''t feel bad. I of course love it when she thinks models are mommy
27.gif

Burk, did you decide what you are going to do about temporary housing? I say get a furnished rental and save yourself some hassle!

DD, I need to look into more daycares. My dentist was telling me about the one they use. $270ish a week...yikes. Her little girl is a year younger so maybe T would be closer to $230ish. That first one is looking like a deal. I love that my dentist was asking ME if brushing their teeth gets easier. Haha. Guess school is different than real life experience. Meanwhile I had a cavity filled (only my 3rd in my life and I have two more that needs to be filled) and yikes! It hurts. The Dr was keeping me entertained with toddler stories.

Blen - Love the George cake pic! I wish Kyle would have done mroe than just poke the cake for his b-day.

TGal - A is so tall! The party sounds like it went well. And good luck with the in-laws. Paper plates might be a sanity saver...

I hope everyone had a nice Easter! We managed to scoot out of Cali before the earthquake, although in a wierd way I kinds miss them. Kyle opened his platic eggs and threw the candy so he could open and clothes the eggs, kid doesn''t know what the good stuff is yet! I''ll have to get a pic of his curls up for you ladies, in the last couple weeks his hair has gone nuts! Cute blond curls all over, too bad he''s not a girl, I''m sure he''ll be chopping the curls off once he can choose his own hairstyle.

MrsS--
haha...that''s what J got too -- cake and a few presents.
the miniature golf was really more for the bigger kids and my parents, though J and her cousin did have fun putting w/ their little golfs.
like i told TGal, we were bad parents and just got her 3 balloons and count those as presents.
Can''t wait to see Jake w/ his cake and presents.

Blen--
Great cake picture of George.
He''s exactly one year younger than J as they share the same bday ^.^
We''ll most likely celebrate J''s bday the same way as you guys --
Put that little brat down earlier and enjoy some peace and quiet :D

Puffy--
She''s actually waiting for the candles to cool so she can take her elmo and cookie monster.
BIL messed up on the picture where she blew out the candle
7.gif

Have fun in Vegas and come back w/ pictures (speaking of which, I think you owe us a few :P)
I''ll be bugging you until I see them.

DD--
Thanks. I''ve got another one of her looking more mature since she sits properly like a lady and smiled nicely.
I was sad when I had to weaned J too....but the freedom that came w/ not having to pump and being able to wear normal clothes again quickly squashed that sadness.

Tacori--
I hope you''ve got some easter pictures (and videos) for us :D
Why would you need to look for another daycare?
What is wrong w/ the current ones that you have?

Burk--
Ugh, poor you.
So many things on your plate and having to do that w/ a toddler and a baby.
Hang in there.

TGal--
Haha...you are being too nice.
I only post the nice pictures of her :)
Unfortunately, I won''t have any more pictures.....been lazy w/ the camera and of course the little rugrat just won''t cooperate.

LOL....I hear you on the tantrums.
J''s been having at least 3 a day.
We just ignore her, so now she just run to the corner of the room and lay on the floor face-down and kick her legs.
No whining though. Sometimes I don''t know if she''s playing or throwing a fit, so I''d asked her what she''s doing.
She''ll reply "i''m tantruming" and of course I can''t help but laughed
9.gif

I''m w/ you on the dishwashing too -- do it the old-fashioned way.

sbde--
Oooo....the suspense.
Were you guys planning on having more?
Good luck!

Snlee--
36.gif
for honeymoon trimester and no more m/s.

Mustang--
How cute about the curls.
I can''t wait to see.
Too funny about Kyle and the eggs, but that''s good since then you don''t have to hide sweets from him :D

Lili, T is not in a daycare currently. Her preschool is just a preschool. No daycare option. I liked the one I visited but figured I should have something to compare it too. DH and I were adding up the cost of childcare for a year...scary. I mean, it is totally worth it but somehow the annual number just seems really high. I can''t imagine having multiple little kids in childcare is worth the salary in most cases.

Thought I share this funny story (for those who endured the YoGabba Gabba series w/ your little one).
DH and I took J to dimsum this past weekend.
I usually always drink tea w/ my meal, so J's been having a cup of her own too (since she's developed a liking to it)
She points to my cup and said "that's mommy's tea", then to her cup "that's jadie's tea"
then she looks up and asked "where's daddy's?".
I told her that daddy doesn't have one because he doesn't drink tea.
She turned to her dad and put her hand on his arm and asked "how come daddy?"
Her dad told her "I don't like tea".
She then looked him straight in the face and said "you try it, and you'll like it" :D
(this is the phrase that they have in one of the YGG episode that encourages the kid to try new snacks)

lili, that is so adorable! Haha. As annoying YGG can be they do have good messages. Do you know they have a live stage show now?

Tacori--
It is insane how much childcare is.
It's almost as much as our mortgage.
I think w/ multiple kids, it is probably cheaper to go the nanny route.

LOL...YGG do have some good messages and I hate to say that I use some of their phrases to get her to do things too....ie like using her inside voice and outside voice :D
Wow, a live show. Are you going to take T to see or is T over YGG now.
I don't know if J will like it....they may scare her in real life :D
She likes them in small manageable size like her toys.

TGal--
Like Tacori said, post away w/ the pictures.
I don't know why you had to apologize since we love seeing pictures.

Lili, I totally would take her b/c she is still obsessed ("family" is her favorite episode) but I don''t think they are coming to my city. Maybe they will add shows.

lili, J is such a pretty little girl! Love ur new avi. Love the tea story, does J like dimsum?

Blenheim, looks like he love his cake. yum~

Tacori, 3 classes for the summer session, you go girl!

Tgal, love Amelia''s birthday pictures. she is such a tall little girl!

janinegirly, good luck to your friend, she is very brave. Little B is 2 and we still haven''t take him on any trip.

MG, so funny he threw away the candy. Glad you guys got out before the earthquake.

The little devil broke my camera, I don''t know how he did it. The lens won''t retract back in after I turn off the camera and every picture come out blurry. I have to used the little flower icon to get a normal picture and we''re schedule to go on a cruise the end of this month...

Bobo, my lens did that on my p&S and it would say "lens error" on the screen. I had to get it fixed (luckily Best Buy covered it) and they said it was super common. It look 4 weeks though.
7.gif
A cruise! How fun!

I hadn''t thought about daycare that way.... ours was more than our mortgage.
23.gif

G loved his cake. I made waaay too much (2 sheet cakes - one chocolate, one white - plus about a dozen cupcakes as there was too much batter to fit into the pans) and whenever he notices that we''re having some leftover cake, he tries to mooch off of us. DH''s aunt told me that we had to give him a whole sheetcake to himself at his party and thought I was a party pooper for saying no. But that''s crazy, right?!

Sbde - I have my fingers crossed that you get the answer that you want!

Lili - I didn''t realize that they shared a birthday! I think that method of celebrating is the way to go.

TGal - Aw! She does look older than she is.

Childcare costs Yeah, ours is only about half the cost of our mortgage, but when we have two kids in daycare it will be almost as much! I know for many families it would not be worth the money to keep the second parent working. Luckily for us we both make more than that. I can''t imagine the argument about who would stay home
11.gif

I guess I''m a chicken with international travel w/young baby--I think it is do-able, but just not that enjoyable since there''s a lot to manage which negates the whole point of vacation (to relax). Plus it''s a big wrench in a baby''s schedule. I have alot of friends who did it to visit family overseas which makes more sense since you also have assistance on the other side (plus of course you want to see family). I suppose I just found it amusing that at 6mo''s preggo, she was planning a vacation to Europe of all things!

re: childcare expenses..I agree that at some point it makes more sense to be a SAHM, particularly if there are 2 kids. It''s not just the salary vs. daycare costs but all the other costs that go along with working: commuting/gas/parking/subways and tax bill. Although if I made a much higher salary, that would tip the scales the other way I suppose!
