Last night in a bar a newlywed bride started talking to us (me & BF) and he asked to see the bling (I've found a keeper). He complimented it's fire/sparkle and then she said the following: That's because it's an F cut.

It was 3am... I was a few beers in... I couldn't hold it in... So I replied "It's beautiful, but F is a color..."
She sputtered something or another and then changed the topic...

So I felt the need to share that with all of you. PS has made me insufferable. :rodent:

hHahahhaha. "F" cut makes it sound like it's failed at whatever test given!!

lol, I think either way (with beer or without) it would be pretty hard to hold it in!

 You made me snort.

an F cut is the breaking of wind, which apparently she did.
You were not the insufferable one in that discussion.

Maybe she was a few beers in, as well, and got confused! ;))

Oh no, she was quite adamant that it was an F cut...
lol I'm glad you all found it amusing :))
and yeah she was definitely tipsy haha

At least she was tipsy. I feel like the jewelers in my area never know what they are talking about! I swear they have said something as stupid as F cut before....

Haha, and AT LEAST she isn't a jeweler! I've heard jewelers make stupid comments before, too.

Madelise: What's the cut grade on this one?
Jeweler: It's a brilliant cut.

That is great. I had a rather amusing discussion in a mall jewelers about how shape wasn't the same as cut. I finally give up.

I've had that too, many times I ask about cut grade and get told 'it's a round brilliant' or ''that is what we call a princess cut'. Retards.
Once I asked if they had any cushions, the sales assistant then asked me what a cushion was and I had to explain it to her. A different store told me I didn't want a cushion (erm...I think that's up to me, isn't it?!)
One store when I persisted with asking about the cut (after explaining its not the same as shape) they just said 'we don't have any badly cut stones' and showed me a diagram illustrating bad cuts. Yes that's all very well but I am asking about this specific stone!!

I have had this happen to me way too many times...

Haha, that's hilarious!

Reminds me of a time that coworker A was telling me about coworker B's new ering (because I hadn't yet seen it). "Oh my gosh, it's amazing, and so sparkly! She said it's top of the line, A color!" It was all I could do to nod politely and not point out that A isn't a diamond color.

And maybe "F cut" was for "Fair"? Which in reality is really not so good? Hah.

ETA: and if she did in fact mean F color..well, she knows nothing clearly since color has nothing to do with sparkle.

I once heard a guy giving diamond advice to another guy (with utter confidence), starting with the immoral words "first you have to decide on the first C which stands for cut. Now, cut means the shape, like do you want a round, or a square...."

I kept my mouth shut   :o

ME TOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is too funny!

A girlfriend of mine, upon getting engaged, proudly informed me that her ring was "a full cut diamond".

Once I read a comment from a site on the internet from someone who said she had the best diamond you could get and she gave an internet site where she got it from. It seems they sold already set rings with diamonds with D colour and IF clarity but no word anywhere about the cut of the stone. It struck me you could do a good market in making people simply think they got the best. Never mind if they got a stone poorly cut or one much smaller than they might have wanted had they been armed with more knowledge.

She sounds like my friend years ago who was telling me that she had registered for Boneless China for her wedding!!!! Yeah don't want any of those bones on my dishes I don't put there myself!!!

When my aunt got remarried, my cousin made a huge deal about how some famous diamond cutter known throughout all of Europe and the America's cut her diamond specifically for her. And that he only does celebrities but he made exclusive time for her mom.... And then! That he also collaborated with a famous designer to the stars and designed her ring personally.

We are not rich people, nor are we famous! We are just normal middle class people. Why in the hello! would someone do that for her?

LOL, all I can think of is, you mean you went to Kay Jewelers and bought a Neil Lane setting? Maybe the Tolkowsky cut? Which is widely available for anyone to buy? And isn't even that great?

LOL. Yes, because famous diamond cutters and famous designers only work exclusively for famous people, because they don't need to make a living by selling to anyone who isn't famous.

This is brilliant

I was trying to read some other jewelry forums today because I'm searching for wedding band ideas since I'm only so-so about the two I've bought but have no clue what I really want, and since my e-ring is chunkier than most on PS, there aren't many good representative pics here... but I was just SO bugged at all the pictures of dirty diamonds, overly deep diamonds, overly shallow diamonds, diamonds with lots of dead facets, mushy diamonds, etc. I mean, it's like, it's great that you have a two carat diamond, but do you not SEE the massive fisheye in all your pictures????

Also, they have a much higher percentage of people wearing their wedding bands on the outside/top of their engagement rings. Which always just looks wrong to me.

It's funny how it matters but it does. I'll be interested to see what you choose for a wedding band distracts. From your posts I've come to admire your taste!
