Hey All,

I am fairly a diamond novice, but since I love my girlfriend so much, I have to learn some stuff. I know all about the 4Cs, but arent quite sure if I am getting ripped off. I have been researching at BlueNile so I have an idea how much stuff should cost. I have gone to Rogers and Hollands, but felt like I was getting ripped off, even after the guy went to the phone to get my best price. I just went to Kays today, and looked at a few of the Leo Diamonds that supposedly shine better then the normal diamonds (at least did to me). Here are the specs that I am looking for.
Caret - 3/4 or 5/8
Clarity - VS1 and up
Cut - Princess
Color - H and above

The 2 Leos that I was shown were
5/8 VS2 H for 2150
3/4 VS2 G for 3550

I have already picked out a band which is 300, and I plan on getting insurance. Do these diamonds look like good deals, or can I get better. What prices should I be looking for what I want. Thanks so much for any help that you can give me.

if you are looking for princess cut Whiteflash carries a line of princess called the ACA (a cut above) which is supposed to be very good. Here is one example that fits what you are looking for

0.723 F VS2

You can also try JamesAllen, make sure to request ASET images from them...here is one from them that is larger than you requested but still in your price range

0.87 G

Whiteflash has their ACA Superideal Princess cuts. You should probably look at them.

Here are a few examples...

Click on View Details at the bottom of each listing to see details about each diamond. Click on the picture to see a blown
up picture of the diamonds. You can also see each diamonds ASET image and Idealscope images (click on indicators under
picture of diamond).

We cant really tell anything from the info you have given us. We really need pictures/aset images and idealscope images.

EDIT - slg...you beat me to it!

thanks for the help guys... i did not take pictures of the rings, but can you buy rings in bands from whiteflash?

Yes, you pick the stone you like and the setting you like and they will mount the stone for you.
Is that what you are asking?

EDIT
Here is a link to their simple solitare settings.

yes... So to put it frankly, I can do better than what I was offered at Kays?

Yes, I think so. Atleast with a whiteflash ACA you know what you are getting. Good old gold also has some beautiful princess cuts
sometimes. I'll take a look.

Here is an I. Might be a little lower color than you are wanting but it is beautiful.
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6435/ $2541 bankwired

They also have a .7 G/VS2 for $2880 but thet images are not coming up.
Anyway, here is a link to that diamond. You probably she watch that video that is loaded there.

Jon makes videos of the stones you like so you can actually see how it performs under differernt lighting conditions.
Both Whiteflash and GOG are very reputable vendors in case you were worried.

I would say so, especially since the 0.72 F VS2 from WF is $2900 and the 0.75 G from Kays was $3500. If you want to spend up to $3500 you can go larger.

I just feel a little weird buying an engagement ring online.. Is there any advice out there for it.

For what? Buying online? Most of us bought ours online, that''s why we are on this forum.

a lot of people have bought online and I don''t think there is anything to worry about going with a recommended vendor. do you have any specific concerns?

well i like being able to hold a ring and see it in many directions

There is always a return policy from reputable online vendors, you can still see it and return it if you do not like it.

So, it is up to you. It is your money, you have to decide how you want to spend it.

also GOG will take a video in different lighting environments for you (I believe) so that may be an option too!

Hi Isaac-For a Princess I would go to Whiteflash ACA or Good Old Gold Signature Ideal. They are amazing cuts and the customer service is awesome. Here are two from Good Old Gold

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3380/ (here you can see the stone in a video--actually I just watched he video and I think it doesn''t have this stone in it, it is just a comparison between GOG signature princess and another vendor''s:-) If you call Jonathan I''m sure he''ll send you a video of the stone you are interested in. (Although, this video does illustrate how you could maybe drop in color to get a bigger stone if that''s important to you...:-)

I don''t even really care for princess cuts and I LOVE GOG''s princesses:-)

the Whiteflash one that tyty is also great!

Thanks for all the help... Is the Leo diamond a good deal or not? Just seemed so shiny

You can buy one of the GOG or WF stones and then bring it to the store and compare. If you still think the store stone is better, then return the online stones.

Thanks for all the great help so far. I like some of the options on the two sites. Do they charge a fee for mounting a ring into a band? Also what about insurance?

I am not sure about mounting fees, someone else could help you answer that question most likely (or you could contact the vendor). Lots of people on PS have used Jewelers Mutual for insurance purposes, their rates are reasonable. you could also check into adding it onto an existing policy if that applies to you

wf will set a stone not bought from them for a setting fee, I suspect the fee will depend on the setting and stone itself.

I *believe* they do not charge a setting fee if you buy the stone and setting from them. If you buy them from 2 different
vendors there will usually be a setting fee.

I was just like you a few months ago. I did a ton of research before i felt comfortable. I keep checking between GoodoldGold and WhiteFlash (WF)....both are amazing and eventually WF had a rock that fit my parameters and price...finally pulled the trigger and couldnt be happier. It was a ACA princess and it is gorgeous!!

Where is the video on this page?

i don''t see a video on that page, but here is a video comparing GOG signature princess cuts to other princess cuts
