I figure I''d post here since you guys now have your diamond + setting all squared away and now have an expert eye that may be able to help me.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/Common-Prong-Engagement-Ring.html

If you scroll down to near the bottom left, click on "click to play 3D movie", you will see a 1.9 mm wide band with a pretty diamond.

Right when the ring appears on the girl''s finger (the zoomed out look), do you see the size of that diamond? RELATIVE to that 1.9 mm wide band, I''d like to know what you think is the physical size/measurement of that diamond (I''m not talking about carat weight)? That to me is a great size and the look I want to achieve (I don''t think it is too flashy but just enough)

Any guesses? 6.8 mm? 7.3 mm? Thank you!

I''m not a jewler, nor an expert, but I can do a scale/ proportion calculation

I measured the stone''s girdle width on the picture on my monitor (30mm) and measured the width of the band (7mm ish)

then i used a proportion calculation: x stone width/1.9mm band width = 30mm picture stone width / 7mm picture band width
(rearranged: 30x 1.9 divided by 7 = x)

= 8.14 mm at the widest part of the stone (girdle to girdle)

(assuming the ring is the same proportion in the still picture )

I wasn''t able to measure the band width dead on , like I did the stone (it''s a bit tilted), so The diamond width could be between 7.125 and 9.5mm.

cheers,
HD

Chapter 1 the other factor is what size the hand model is vs your hand. Call/Email James Allen they will be able to tell you all the details and convert the mm up or down based on your ring size.
