From this old thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/replacing-thick-ritani-prongs.79845/,,, I now have an opportunity to reduce the size of the prongs on my stone. It'll be repolished, with no anticipated loss in stone size.
To respond to diamondseeker2006 on the old thread (it's been locked for some reason), my stone is 6.89 mm in diameter. The other picture I borrowed is of a 1.6 ct stone, which, upon looking up ideal cut PS stones, may be about approximately 7.5 mm across.
GOG said they could take some metal off the tips of the setting to make it look less bulky. In the 1.6 ct ring, the prongs look as though they aren't higher than the table. In mine, they definitely are. My issue is, I don't have any idea of what it will look like.
They said "The diamond setters instruction will be to make prongs smaller “balls” than they were. He is not going to do anything other than shape the metal at the top of the diamond into smaller balls. He will not be tapering your prongs as they come up the sides of the diamond."
Do you think that will look okay? I can probably be lumped in with the category of people who are intensely picky about prongs, so I'm in a bit of an impasse about this. I'm concerned that the top will be less obstructive, but the sides will still stick out as much. On the bright side, the side view would still be okay (I think).
Has anyone had rings set by GOG? I'm sure there are photos of prongs done by their setter. (Help! I don't know how to search for them!)
