From this old thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/replacing-thick-ritani-prongs.79845/,,, I now have an opportunity to reduce the size of the prongs on my stone. It'll be repolished, with no anticipated loss in stone size.

To respond to diamondseeker2006 on the old thread (it's been locked for some reason), my stone is 6.89 mm in diameter. The other picture I borrowed is of a 1.6 ct stone, which, upon looking up ideal cut PS stones, may be about approximately 7.5 mm across.

GOG said they could take some metal off the tips of the setting to make it look less bulky. In the 1.6 ct ring, the prongs look as though they aren't higher than the table. In mine, they definitely are. My issue is, I don't have any idea of what it will look like.

They said "The diamond setters instruction will be to make prongs smaller “balls” than they were. He is not going to do anything other than shape the metal at the top of the diamond into smaller balls. He will not be tapering your prongs as they come up the sides of the diamond."

Do you think that will look okay? I can probably be lumped in with the category of people who are intensely picky about prongs, so I'm in a bit of an impasse about this. I'm concerned that the top will be less obstructive, but the sides will still stick out as much. On the bright side, the side view would still be okay (I think).

Has anyone had rings set by GOG? I'm sure there are photos of prongs done by their setter. (Help! I don't know how to search for them!)

GOG set my AVC for me in the standard cheapie temporary Stuller.

I'm just going to comment I'm eagerly awaiting responses on this topic. (Despite the title sounding like cosmetic surgery for your ring. )

GOG is currently doing a similar ring for me with delicate split claws...I LOVE this Ritani, but was not a fan of the sturdy prongs.
I think you may find their custom halos on video or even doing a search on the forum, but I have not seen any non-halo examples.

Thanks Chrono! That's pretty helpful. Was your stone set by Stuller?

Harpertoo, I was orginally thinking the same thing. My thread was almost called "prong augmentation surgery". The Ritani designs I've seen before a certain year didn't have the chunky prongs. I heard from one popular seller that they sold the business just before and the new owners have made the chunkier designs their standard.

I think the 1.6 reference ring I posted was from a clearout sale from a vendor that was trying to get rid of old stock and she happened to find the originally designed Endless Love. I thought I was getting that design when I ordered it. Surprise, surprise.... ;(

GOG did the work.

GOG said they would send the pictures to the setter and ask that the prong shape closely resemble the original as possible. I suppose that's the most I can ask for?

Then I just have to sit tight and hope and pray for the best.

Guess so. It can't get any worse, right? :))

Don't even think it!! I may need to get smelling salts just in case!
