Hi : DH has given me the go-ahead for an Eternity !!!!!
(after only 30 years......ya THINK ?!?!?!)

ANYway.....
Soooo Excited !!!!

I have been browsing the GORGEOUS pictures of all the lovely ladies'
Eternity Rings here, and reading the wonderful stories.

I have my choice narrowed down to ID Jewelers,
but here is my question...

Please help, because I am up a tree here without a parachute.
And I have an itchy trigger-finger at the moment,
and am about ready to email IDJewelry ~ TODAY !!!!

I see that many women here have the U Prong setting, and many also have the Common Prong
(?Shared Prong?)
I also think the Lucida style is lovely.
i JUST CAN'T DECIDE !!!!!

Is there a real reason for what you have chosen?
Please help me out. :))

I am going to attach some pictures to illustrate my style dilemma...

I think this is the Lucida style.
Does anyone have this one?
If nobody has one, is there a reason?
Because I think it is lovely

O Course, we all know the U Prong and the Shared / Common Prong
Both are lovely, but I do lean toward the U Prong.
If there is a practical reason to go with the Shared / Common prong,
does anyone mind sharing?

I sincerely appreciate anyone's advice, THANK YOU !!!

I think it depends on what you plan to do with it. If it's going to be a standalone, I think any style works and aesthetically, I love the Lucida. If you plan to stack it, you want something that will fit well with other rings, such as the shared prong. Really though, I think it's a matter of personal preference. Can't wait to see what you select! After 30 years of marriage, you've earned it!!!

Hi ooo~Shiney!, I just ordered a prong-set eternity band from IDJ. It's not ready yet so I don't have pictures but I chose the shared-prong (closed basket) because they said that was the setting that could be made to sit the lowest on my finger. I don't know the pros and cons of the other styles but that's why I went with shared-prong.

I hope you find something you love!

AFter a mere 30 years you are getting the go ahead on this?? hmmm... a little quick and hasty, don't you think???  :wink2: :wink2:

congratulations on 30 years! That's wonderful :appl:

I have a 1/2 eternity, U shared prong made with 8 x .12 diamonds and I love it. It covers just the top of the finger (which is what I wanted) and when it rolls to the side (not often, but when it does...) I'm aware of the diamonds between my fingers and that isn't a feeling that I like. That's just me tho. Mine was from IDJ and I'm thrilled with it

Ooooo THANK YOU , everyone !!!
yennyfire, Brownie22, Enerchi :))

( I STILL can't decide though !!! AAaaaaaaaaaaaa.....)

And thanks for the Congratulations....
Yep, it's gonna be 31 years this May ~ Wow, where did the time go?

And, Best of All, my DH upped my budget !!!!!!!!!
He just "wants me to be happy with the ring"

Woo Hoo !!!

Welcome to the 30+ year club! Congratulations!

I went with a shared prong eternity from Memoire, and LOVE it, but that was before my PS days.

However, I have worked with Yekutiel at IDJewelry, and he is WONDERFUL! :D Be sure to try on several eternities in the different styles to see which fit and feel you like on your finger, then tell him what you want. He will be sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Hi ooo~Shiney, YAY for your new project, and congratulations on 30 years!! I have the shared prong closed setting from IDJ because I wanted it to be as low as possible, and I was not particularly fussed about the side view either. I tried on the Lucinda when I was in NYC recently and comared to the shared and u-prong it sits up quite high, which I found uncomfortable. It's very much a matter of preference. I think the u-prong is the best of both worlds... it sits fairly low and the side view is stunning.
Ooooooooooooooooooo I can't wait to see what you decide on!!!!! Any ideas on what ctw you're aiming for? SO exciting!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Congratulations on 30 years and your increased budget! :appl:

I have two little 7 stone bands and while they are nowhere near as big and blingy as the bands you are contemplating, I thought I'd weigh in here anyway!

One of my bands has a "closed" profile and the other is uprong. I definitely prefer the uprong! It is lower than the closed profile and easier to clean. I also love being able to see more of my diamonds!

Can't wait to see what you get! :D

Hi Owies Nana, DandiAndi and Trekkie :

Thank You and I am finding your advice very helpful !
It's super-helpful to know that the Lucida setting sits higher than the others.
I just LOVE that profile view however !!!!

I think at this point, I am totally voting with my eyes.
The U Prong or the Lucida setting are just visually more appealing to me.
I DO like that you can see more of the diamonds

I just want the stones to be "safe", you know ?
I have worn colored stones a lot, and you do need to be aware that they can
chip if you are not careful with your hands.....
I know diamonds can chip too, so that's also a concern for me, but lots
of ppl here have tall open settings, and lots have U Prong, so I
think that I will be ok whatever I pick.

I am just waiting for a few more quotes from Luann, and then I will
make my decision !!! YAY !!!!

Forgive me if you already mentioned this somewhere but what size stones are you considering and will you be wearing the band alone or with another ring?

If I were to purchase a stand-alone eternity ring with larger stones than the 10-pointers I selected, I agree that I prefer the U-prong or Lucidia setting a little bit more. I purchased something that I thought would work best with my engagement ring but if I were just purchasing an eternity band to wear on its own I think I would have gone with a more open setting.

Congratualations on 30 years!

Shiny ~ congratulations on 31 years!

I have a u- prong with 23 pointers set really low, very comfortable and I love it. I wear it alone on my right hand.

What size stones are you thinking (sorry, if I missed that)? I can't wait too see what you get, good luck.

I really like the u prong a lot and also open baskets both set as low as possible.

I chose the U prong because I wanted to maximize the light coming into the diamonds. I like it to look as bright and white as possible and I also knew I'd be wearing a spacer between it and my ering, so that was part of my decision. PLUS --- I just like how it looks!

Will this be stand alone or with another? I think that might be influential in what style to go for.

Ack!!!!
Another dilemma !!!!

So I was whiling away my time browsing on some other threads,
and I happened upon the "5-Stone Ring" Thread....

Holy Mother of !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I am REALLY TORN !!!

Here I am about to pull the trigger on an Eternity 35 pointer for a size 7 1/2 finger.

"U prong" (Thanks ladies, and Luann also said the Lucida setting is lovely, is bulkier and has more metal )

OR

I could have a 5 Stone 50 pointer for about the same?

WHAT THE HECK TO DO NOW ?!?!?!?

I DREAM of beautiful white sparkly diamonds encircling my finger like a (rather large) Fairy Crown....
But what about the giant white blinding flash of a Blingtastic 5 Stone? Swoon !!!!

To be honest, I am planning to wear "The One" either as a stand alone RHR, or
occasionally stacked with my Valentine Ring, probably with a band between...

It is purely EVIL, gazing at all y'alls GORGEOUS RINGS.......
(faints)

If it were me... I'd go for a 5 or 7 stone ring for the top of the finger coverage. I personally don't like the feeling of stones between my fingers and at a larger size, they well be deeper, so more noticeable (height + setting) on both sides of your finger. That feeling bothers me.
And... I know eternities are spectacular to look at, but I'm just too practical to pay for diamonds that I'm not seeing, plus I worry about what I may get in the setting - hand lotion, dirt, 'stuff'...

My vote would be a honking 5 x 50 points!! That would TOTALLY ROCK!!! 8-)

I considered a bigger 5 stone when buying my eternity too, and like you I had always dreamed of a full eternity. I knew ultimately I'd wish I'd gotten an eternity if I had gone the 5 stone route. My full eternity is 20 pointers and I LOVE it. 35 pointers?!?! DUDE!!! That would be magnificent!!!!!! :lickout: :lickout: :lickout:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(DH thought 5-Stone too !!! I just.want.both !!!! Is that so wrong ?????)

At the size of the proposed 5-stone, would it like "stick out" a lot across the top of the finger??
Should I care ???

Absolutely NOT!!! If you can get the 5x.50 diamonds... who gives a XXXX what others think when looking at it! I'd be rockin' that baby like it was the last piece of jewellry on earth! Enjoy - it's to celebrate a huge milestone in your life - 30 years of love and devotion to a man that loves you! That's awesome now adays. Get the big stuff!!!

....But on that slightly more practical side (and I hate it when old practicality rears its head...) have you tried on a few bands of larger sizes to get a sense of what really feels comfortable to you and when you look at your hand? What seems like the perfect option in your head, may not look as perfect on your hand, KWIM??? It sure sounds perfect to me - all your options sound AMAZING! - but go to a high end store in your city and try on some options. Better to spend time investigation ALL choices now, before you commit to something you aren't sure you like once you have it. (ANd I guess that kinda works for marital advice too! hahahah! ;)) :wink2: )

Enerchi, you are so sweet and your advice is just excellent !!!

I am nothing if not impulsive, I wish you were my neighbor !!!
But although you are the little angel on my shoulder,
it's the little Devil on the other shoulder that made me pull the trigger today :? :?
Or was it everyone's pictures !!!!

So many beautiful Eternity rings and 5 stone rings....

In all honesty, with my job and family obligations, I would have a hard time getting
to downtown Houston at all.....
I did stop into the small Tiffany's they have in my little city, and tried on a few small bands,
but nothing grand.....

Sooooooo, I shall soon have : a ring like Bliss !!! (and numerous others !!!)

Ooooooooo I CAN'T WAIT !!!!!!

THANK YOU to everyone who saw my thread and contributed, I appreciate each and every one of you !!!!!

How exciting!!! what did you finally decide on? Which trigger got pulled? :naughty:

You live in Texas - did you survive the tornadoes - or were they not in your area??

Sure, I'll happily be your neighbour - we can play jewellry all day long! I love sparkles - mine, yours, everyone elses!!!

Enerchi, Ahhh, no tornadoes in my area, thank Goodness !!!!

I guess we'll have to wait and see which ring was ordered !!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

and you can come and play any time !!!!

OMG! you are killing me (US!) here with the wait.... ARGH!!! :angryfire:

Just for that, you'll have to bring out all your jewels when I come and play - and we're gonna sit under halogen bulbs and sparkle till we EXPLODE! hahahaha!!!
