Prong Issues on NEW Custom Engagement Ring

Hello! Long time lurker (2 years?), first time poster.

I got my engagement ring a couple of months ago. It's custom made, and I designed it. I am not afraid I made a (hopefully small) mistake.

It's a three-stone, with a .95 pear center. The pear has a 5 prong setting. I am now regretting not going with the 3 prong. I wanted the extra security, but I'm afraid it may have compromised some of the beauty of the stone.

Is it possible to take it to a jeweler to remove 2 of the prongs (the 2 on the wings)? If it is possible, is it advisable?

I think your ring looks lovely and I wouldn't change it. The prongs didn't bother me at all!

Ring looks beautiful as it is.

I'd suggest, don't go for any changes as it might damage the ring.

Your jeweller might suggest beefing up the remaining 3 prongs if you plan to remove the other 2 as they may not be strong enough to hold your pear safely once removed.

I would go to the original jeweler who made your ring and ask. Otherwise, I can recommend Quest Jewelers if you live near northern VA. They have great workmanship, and are very adept at alterations and repairs.
