Promise Ring Setting?

I bought a .32ct L SI2 diamond and I'm trying to figure out what type of setting would be best.
Would a yellow metal make the diamond more yellow?
Would a white metal be better?
Four prongs? Six prongs?
Antique bezel?
I haven't received the diamond yet and figure I should wait before purchasing any setting, but I'm just looking for opinions.

So sweet that you're getting her a promise ring!

For that color, I'd recommend yellow gold (white gold or platinum will show off the yellowness of the diamond).

I'd also consider setting it in a full bezel (which is more secure and will make it seem larger). If you taper the shank of a full bezel, it might look like class ring, so I would go with a shank that is the same width all the way around (either wide or narrow).

If you really want to go with prongs, a 6 prong is more traditional and more secure.

I'm not sure about the yellow vs. white gold debate (regarding which one shows the diamond color more) - I've heard it both ways.

I've heard that using yellow gold for a bezel results in the diamond looking more yellow.

Does she prefer yellow or white gold? A lot of women strongly prefer one over the other.

Re: the choice of metal, I think it sort of depends on what the dominant shade of the stone is. All "faint yellow" stones are not created equal: some are actually yellowish, some are closer to brown or champagne, and some are greyish. I'd take a look at this particular one before I decided. I think the hands-down safest choice would be to go with unplated white gold: it tends to have a "warm" cast to it without either exaggerating the stone's hue, or contrasting against it.

A few PSers have L colored stones in white metals and I think they look lovely. Unplated WG would be a good choice too-Yssie has a beautiful ring in unplated WG and somewhere floating around PS are some metal color comparison photos

The ring isn't a promise of an engagement, but rather, following dreams and never forgetting one's true self.

Circe, I honestly am impartial bezels, but that ring is beyond gorgeous. I'll definitely look more into the unplated white gold, it sounds like the best almost neutral option.

Would any particular yellow be best?

How yellow are L color stones? There seems to be a mixed array online...

Haha, thank you. Yes, lot's of changes happening, and I decided that I need a ring that symbolizes something completely for me.
Too young to be thinking about engagements anyhoot!

Bluenile has one and i looked for having the best of the two world, platinum prongs in a YG setting where the ring color can blend with the stone at the same time offset by the platinum color of the prongs.

Ditto, Circe - depending on the color cast of this particular L diamond, I'd suggest unplated white gold, as well. Also, bezel setting a smaller diamond really helps boost the finger real estate, and in my mind, helps to further protect the diamond.

Can't seem to find any settings which would fit a 4.34mm stone... 4mm would be too small, but would 4.5 be too big??

Exactly. I'm not one for tattoos or anything too permanent, but I felt the need to make something I'd see to remind myself that what I'm doing is worth it, not to forget to live, enjoy my life. Not be afraid of taking risks.

I adore that size diamond in an etoile style semi-bezel personally. Color of metal won't much matter, but I would be tempted by yellow cold to add contrast with the diamond body color, making it stand out more.

My diamond came!!! Oh how extraordinarily exciting (for me at least)
During the day I could blatantly see the yellow, but now that the sun has set and the indoor lights are on, it might as well be an I!
Terrible timing for me to lose my camera battery charger, but I took a photo with my phone.
Also, I couldn't really wait to set it, so I made a "home made" setting for the time being out of an old unraveled guitar string.

Thoughts?

The setting the diamond is in right now I made myself, perhaps I should start an etsy shop lol. But no, it's basically wire which I've willed to hold the diamond temporarily. I'll take more pictures when I find my battery charger.
My whole dilemna has been what metal and setting would be best for this diamond. The setting that I've made is basically a bezel because it's holding it from all sides, except its not thick around the diamond and almost invisible... does such a setting actually exist elsewhere?
