Prior to wire transfer

Please help!
What should I expect to have PRIOR to the wire transfer.

Im about to send 4100.00 to a guy I only spoke to on the phone a few times
and was recommended from here.

I have nothing in writing other than an email stating what he found for me and a price.

Should I expect a Bill, or and invoice, or something before preforming a wire transfer?

Which vendor? My husband sent a wire to Whiteflash and there were no problems at all. We ended up returning the diamonds and they mailed us a check promptly. I did get an email invoice from them before we sent the wire though. I even had to confirm the email invoice and policies of the sale by replying to their email (I assume they wanted the confirmation in writing to avoid miscommunication) before they would send me the diamonds.

My bf did not send the money until we had approved the stone gotten pics of it, gotten the wax and completed the ring. He didn''t send money until the ring was completed. I guess this may be just in our case but we used WF.

Can you give them a credit card so they can get authorization and then wire the money when you decide for sure on the stone? I bought my RB through Wink and although I decided to just have it set upon talking to him, his policy is that you give him your credit card number and they run an authorization but not a charge as an ''insurance'' so that when the diamond gets to you if you run away with it he''s not out the money. I think that''s fair for both parties.
If you are leery about sending the wire without some type of documentation then call the vendor and speak with them about it. Maybe ask them to send an invoice over or something. I chose to pay with credit card because I feel it''s much safer that way. I know you get a discount with cash but there is always a paper trail with cc and always a company that will fight your battles if something goes wrong. (Precisely why I would never purchase on EBAY without using my cc through paypal lol)
