hello all! i've been lurking here for months and have finally joined...

i've found the setting for my e-ring (it's by mark patterson) but am trying to decide on my center stone. i've always loved the princess cut, but i really like a square cushion as well. we (my boyfriend and i) are trying to decide and would appreciate any suggestions any of you may have

we're looking at 1ct for the stone. my ring size is 4.5 (if that helps at all). here's a link to a picture on the michael c. fina site so you know what setting i write of:

i've seen this setting on ps with a gorgeous rectangular cushion...

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/wow-the-new-setting-is-finally-here-naughty.70613/

anyone have pictures of a square diamond in this setting?

thanks in advance for any help/comments/suggestions

Cushion! I think a square stone would look odd in that setting with the rounded sides. Imho.

First of all welcome to PS!

Secondly, the ring you posted (PRbaglady''s) is my favorite ever on PS. I think that ring is breathtaking, and I would love to own that setting one day.
So with that said, I think that a square cushion would look amazingly beautiful in the setting you posted.
If you have a shot of it from the top someone here may be able to photoshop a square cushion into it...

I vote cushion but then again I''m biased

I think that the cushion cut stone will be stunning in this dream setting.

Square cushion yes, sharp edged princess no.

You need some pillowy softness for the crescent setting to work IMO.

thanks everyone. i''m definitely leaning toward the cushion, but it''s just so hard to know what modifications would be done to the ring to fit to the stone. my guess is the crescent mounting would be straightened out a bit. i''ve attached a picture with the view from the top if anyone is handy with photoshop.

I vote for a cushion as well, for exactly these reasons! Picturing it in my minds eye, I think it will lose some of its charm if the sides are straightened ... maybe something like an X-Factor would be a nice compromise? Despite the straight sides, the cut of the stone produces a more "rounded" effect that could suit the setting very well ....

OMG, I''ve seen this setting in person, and its GORGEOUS!!! I totally vote cushion!!! IMO, a princess would look odd in there. That setting has such a "softness" to it, if you know what I mean. A cushion fits it perfectly. Good luck!

I hope this will Do!! I tried lol!!! This is the only square cushion pic on my computer!

This one might be a bit better

Thats perfect! Thanks lasscreative!

Dani~ I forgot that you got to see that in person. I just adore this setting! I agree tht the harsh corners of a princess would look off in this setting. I think the square cushion is even better than I imagined!

So Boomersgirl... What do you think??

thank you so much lasscreative! it helps tremendously to see a stone with it! the setting beautiful in person (and on my finger

), but i have yet to see it in person with any stone.

i LOVE it!!!

i''ll be visiting my boyfriend over the long weekend, and we will most definitely be making a visit to the jewelry store to try that little beauty on again.

No probs!!!! I completely understand! I love this setting heapssssss! I hope you get it!

you all can count on TONS of pictures when i get it.

Ohhh goodie!!!! I can''t wait that long but!!!! The more pictures the better. I don''t know why ppl apologise about having to many piccies!!! LUV EM!!!

i hadn't seen an x-factor, but just looked at one online and like it as well. thanks circe!

A square cushion like GOG's Square H&A would look stunning! I agree that the rounded edges are a must, but I would definitely prefer close to a 1:1 L:W ratio rather than a rectangular cushion.

ETA: For a 1ct stone, here are two different options from GOG's Square H&A collection. There's also a nice one that's slightly under 1ct to save you some cash.

I am in the process of telling my boyfriend what kind of setting I want and I have been looking at that mark patterson for over a year now, inspiration from prbaglady''s ering, and I definately know that is the setting I want. Do you think you could take some more pictures like from the side view? Just so I can see what it looks like without a stone in it. BTW DEF CUSHION!!!

I am kind of biased, as I am not a real fan of princess cut (for myslef that is) and I am getting a cushion for my e-ring! So my vote is 110% cushion!!!

I agree. I got a similar setting from Fina that originally had a princess cut and it just looked so bleh... Not that there''s anything wrong with princess cuts, but that setting will definitely look better with a cushion. Nice square shape with rounded sides.... Yummy...

Congrats in advance by the way!

I vote cushion...but I like cushions. I would go with the cut you prefer more. That being said, I think the fluidity of the setting works better with a cushion.

Cushion! I think the sharp edges of a princess would look a bit strange.

i''m not 100% sure about this, but on Mark Patterson''s website it describes the Promise collection as being all platinum. that being said, this setting isn''t even shown on his website.
