Hey all - didnt want to join until he finally proposed and he has with a funny little story to go with it!

We have been together for nearly 5 years and have just been on a short trip to italy - I was struck down on day 1 with food poisening - and was ill for 3 days - it wasnt till the last day that I finally felt better and he could finally propose after praying all holiday that I would get better so he could as he planned!!

He bought a temporary ring - and I am looking to get the Real Deal - I like the idea of a very feint colored diamond - blue green pink brown most prob -

I have seen these - but does anyone have any ideas of their rep or where I could get something? We will have to pay for our wedding so we need to consider budget but I guess upto $3.5K would be ok - though we live in uk. I could always but diamond and get it set. I think I like princess asscher cut.

HELP - it feels like such a big decision - I never thought I would be a Mrs!!!

I prefer this level of feintness

Welcome to PS! Unfortunately, fancy colored diamonds tend to be quite expensive because of their rarity, so you might have to consider smaller stones and/or irradiated stones to be able to get one in your price range. You didn't mention canary yellow diamonds, which are the most widely available fancy colored diamonds. There are a few rings that look nice in your price range at Knox Jewelers:
0.41 fancy light yellow radiant
0.56 fancy intense yellow radiant
0.64 fancy light yellow radiant
White center diamond with fancy pinks in halo
0.16 fancy irradiated pink

...and my personal favorite is a bit outside the price range, but if the budget is stretchable, this fancy light purplish pink looks spectacular!

I'm not sure how you feel about irradiated diamonds, but I got a beautiful little irradiated green diamond ring for under $700 USD. Here's a picture next to my e-ring:

ETA: Just want to add that I think the Fay Cullen brown diamond ring looks gorgeous! Just be careful because Fay isn't known for stellar customer service. Do a search and you'll know what I mean!

lady,

Would you consider a pale pink, green or blue sapphire?

Thanks all for your replies - You''ve certainly pointed me in the direction of other places I hadnt found - which is exactly what I need.

I could go for a sapphire - but can you find them that pale? I dont think Yellow diamond suits me - I look terrible in yellow :(

I guess I could forgo a fancy setting and wedding band and keep it simple and all about the stone - and maybe reassess my budget.

Any further ideas appreciated - its hard to envisage what the stone/ring could look like.

Cheers all again

Lady,

Yes, you can find pale blue sapphires, I have two in my engagement ring :) They take a little hunting but I absolutely love them!

Remember that if you buy outside the UK you need to add 20% to the price to cover VAT and Customs duty.

Sapphires come in all shades.

Those settings are beautiful, and could show off a sapphire well. You said you liked the asscher cut, correct? Jeff White from Whites Gems is a cutter well liked around these parts. Here's a photo of a light blue one he did (pricescoper neatfreak's, possibly?):

Whites Gems: Blue Asscher

You could decide which color you wanted and let him know so he could find you some rough to cut. Depending on budget, you could also choose the size.

Thanks for that - I am stuck on shape really - I believe that a more brilliant cut will maximise the colour - I still want it to be sparkly even if its not a diamond -

I love this setting - but I think I would have a different shape stone round square - again wedding bands need to be considered - also will diamonds be liekly to fall out?
