Ok, so I have narrowed my fields down quite a bit. I checked all the available stones on PS, and wittled it down:

G color
VS2 or clean SI1
depth from 71-73%
table from 68-72%
carats from .77 to .92cts.
Prices from $2380-$2899.
Total ring budget: $3000 MAX

Likely to get a white gold simple cathedral setting. honestly, something simple, and not too pricey.

Vendors I am looking at are USACerted, DirtCheapDiamonds, EngagementRingsDirect, and Mondera. They are the vendors with the most competitive prices on the stones that are exactly within my ranges.

Also, should we get the WG setting from the stone seller, or from a local jeweler here, as I notice they are like $250 on-line, and more, and we can get it for $100 or less here...

Question is: How do I chose from here? I have 15 stones in numbers only, so I am wondering how to further wittle down my number to at least 5...?

After that we will probably try getting to LOOK at these stones, although we currently are living in Florida, I don''t know how that will happen. We don''t have the money to spend on getting stones shipped to an appraiser, and not sure how to figure which are best?

What NEXT?!

I can't seem to attch the list of them!

Hi Holly....as a few of us have mentioned to you, it's not just the set of numbers, but the interplay of numbers that can MAYBE predict a good princess...the info is already here...do a search...

it's really an educated guess..I would suggest posting a few here and getting some opinions...unfortunately, that doesn't guarantee anything..but it can help.

Would getting crown heights on them help? None of the stones listed in PS had crown heights or any angles...and the ones with lower crowns may not be as desirable...?

I can't randomly pick 1 out of 15 stones and know which will be the best for our money, can I...?

you can absolutely narrow it down. Unfortunately, drop shippers like dirt cheap ( while awesome for prices) can't give you crown info...they do just that...drop ship....But it depends on what you're looking for...are you still looking for the largest stone...or the best cut...or in the middle....

Well, I never wanted a piece of dead carbon, but i dropped the size from the .90cts, to about .80cts or so in order to get a better ratio of table to depth. My only issue is that size IS a concern, as my fingers make the stone look so small, and had i a size 4.5 finger, that stone would be JUST RIGHT...SIGH

We have decided to take our time with this search, and in the meanwhile, he is considering getting me a pretty ornate wG ring we saw yesterday as a "holder". Very cheap, simple and will do the trick...

Again, we'll BOTH save up a bit more, and see what we can afford later on, because we don't want to upgrade for at least 10 years (if we do at all), and that way it will be just right from the get-go. I'm a lucky gal that he totally understands this and is willing to be so patient about all this! What a guy!

Holly~

Look at your list of possibles. Take the ones with table and depth %'s less than 70-72% first. Contact the Vendors and ask for the information you need to crunch the DIY (Do It Yourself) grading system at www.gemappraisers.com to determine the Cut Class of each diamond. Then proceed from there.

Don't be afraid to call Vendors. They are really very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable people. MMM is absolutely correct. Some Vendors do "Drop/Ship" without seeing the diamond before you receive it. Although you may be considering a diamond off the lists, several of the Vendors here will not simply drop ship a diamond to you. White Flash, Nice Ice, and Abazia's, for example, have the diamonds shipped to them first for evaluation. If they don't like the diamond, they will tell you so. You'll also get pics, IS, and other info before the diamond is ever shipped from the Vendor to you.

Give some Vendors a call and chat with them. See which ones will work with you to help you find the nicest, biggest diamond available within your price point.

hi
if your choice is princess, I would maximize the size, because on any square shape diamond thw weight goes to the bottom, so you want the maximum mm for bigger look, an exact square is prefered.

That's what I was doing by taking the actual measurments of the stone and finding the surface area of each stone, regardless of it's actual carat weight. That made me realize that combined with the surface area and a decently smaller table size, there can be "small" larger carats, because they are hiding the weight in the girdle of the pavillion, so I was basing a lot on the surface area for a bigger look.

I also only targeted stones that had a 1.04 or better ration, so they WOULD be square. Still, I think we will continue searching, and see if any of the local jewelers can help us find a larger stone, perhaps even an estate piece that may have had a previous life before us. I am not superstitious, but only am looking for a deal for our money, so I don't care where the stone comes from. It also helps to SEE stones, everyone is right...You can't pick a stone by it's numbers, especially a princess cut!!!

Thanks guys!
