OK, this may seem like a silly question, but I''m going to take the plunge and ask anyway. Is there any way to put a halo consisting of princess cuts around a round brilliant center stone? The reason I ask is because I love the look of halos, but my e-ring is an RB solitaire and my WB is a double row of invisible set princess cuts. I really like both of my rings, but I yearn for a halo around the center stone as well as some princess cuts along the sides of my e-ring. Is it possible? Has anyone seen anything like this or own it? Maybe I am just dreaming....sigh.

Not that I would know where to find one, but are you thinking of a square halo of princess cut stones with the RB in the center?

I''m thinking of a round halo with princess cuts in it around a RB center stone.

In theory it''d be possible but I think there would be wasted metal space in the halo...I dunno you should call a jeweler to see if its possible though.

I have seen square halos with princess cuts made for a RB online somewhere though.

I don't think this would work... and if they could do it it would quite a bit more difficult and expensive than setting pave with rounds (thinking of how the myriad of square seats for the stones would be cut, and where well cut square pointers could possibly come from - most small princesses are utterly dead). Perhaps if the result would look good it would be done, but it doesn't because the little squares cannot fit on a round frame of course, so there will be gaps between them - much larger and visible than for rounds. And with the flat sides of the princesses, there's no room to cut those beads to hold the pave in place unless bands of naked metal are left around the stones - which defeats the purpose of pave to cover as much surface with diamonds as possible.

But...

There is a charming exception, when those little diamonds are not square, but cut as segments of circle sections to fit precisely in the round frame. Typically, these stones are cut on order for one (exceptional) piece of jewelry. The designs are said to contain diamonds 'cut to model' and modified princess cuts are used along with french cut and baguettes and perhaps other specialty cuts I've never heard of.

I don't know any brand with a bridal line using this style. This one below is one example of such a halo of diamonds fitted together, by Vryens

I might be wrong, but these designs are somewhat of an Antwerp specialty. Not surprisingly perhaps, because those diamonds need to be custom cut... This is about all that comes to mind. You could ask Paul Sledgers about this.

If you like the look so much, perhaps something could be done.

In theory, that just wouldn''t work. Try and draw a circle (the size of a dime or smaller) with true squares. I tried it, and it just doesn''t work.

Here''s a photo of my rings (very dirty rings, I apologize.) I suppose the look I''m after has more to do with me a. wanting to incorporate princess cuts into the solitaire, b. make it a little more "unique", and c. of course to make it look larger on my hand.

I love the look of the ring you posted Valeria. That is what I had in mind when I was trying to draw out a picture to see if it would work! Singer, just so ya know, I DID try, and you''re right, it''s impossible to fit squares into a circular halo! LOL! I appreciate your efforts!

I also would like to have my e-ring set with invisible-set princesses just like the wedding band, only just a single row on each side. Top that with a halo and I think it could work for me. I hate to say this, (because I''m not a fan of baguettes), but do you think that instead of custom cutting princesses for a halo, you could use some princesses and fill in with baguettes? I have no idea what I''m talking about...please stop laughing!!!

There is a clearer pic of the rings on pg 50 of SMTR, if anyone is still interested at this point. Also, let me post this pic of the e-ring itself so you can see why I can''t stand it: the way the head fits into the ring is just, well, I have no kind words for it so I will refrain.

Pardon the pun, but are you 100% set on wearing the e-ring & wedding band as a "set"?

Your wedding band is very wide & substantial. It would look great on it''s own. If you move your e-ring to the other hand you don''t have to use princess stones AT ALL.

IMO adding a halo ering to your wedding band, especially with invisible cut princesses in the e-ring band is gonna be WAY busy. Too much going on. Not enough focus on your awesome stone. And possibly uneven looking as there are two bands of princess cuts stones on the w-band and then just one on the potential e-ring setting, PLUS future halo of unknown pave variety.

Ehh? Just my opinion ...

Whou''se laughing? IMO, either would be lovely. IMO, a halo set with calibrated diamonds - princess of bags, would make a very beautiful, stryking ring. For once, these are not extremely dainty - and you will get the look of a continuous row of diamonds... quite a lovely thought

Case in point - just imagine the rubies are not rubies... but diamonds. The style is vastly more often done with colored stones set in the halo, but diamonds are possible. If given the choice, I would go with some sort of modified brilliant ones rather than baguettes. There even was a branded cut meant for this (''Baguillion'' spelling?). If you are sure of this, it is probably time to ask a jeweler about options. With a bezel setting like that, this sounds like a great candidate for custom work 9well, what doesn''t).

similar to what Ana made reference to with custom cut stones, Wink had this very thing done on a gorgeous RB with a sapphire halo. I just adore this ring...
check it out here in Wink''s gallery. He does note the fact that there was extra cost involved in having those stones custom cut, but if this is something you really want...I say talk to Wink!!

Oh how I would love to have one just like it!!

Well I might just eat my words ''cause Valeria''s pulled out all the stops once again and that is just lovely.

Thanks Deco! Well, the question sounded somewhat unusual - and that was enough to get things going.
I had completely forgotten about the ring at Wink's. I wonder if they could make one with diamonds.

Btw... at Pearlmans'

Not halo style, but plenty of princess cuts in sight. The one to the right seems to have princess cut diamonds sent on the sides of the shank too - which would be quite unusual.

A totally random search pulled up these two below - the settings are meant for larger oval stones, but hopefully give an idea. It didn't occur to me that the shape halo may not be round after all: perhaps this makes little difference for proncesses, but if baguettes are used - it makes a world of difference, and those could be less exotic.

Good God in Heaven or WHOEVER! You all are going to make a PS monster out of me! Just kidding.

Deco, I agree with you 100%, sidestones plus halo will be getting into the "guady" area. RMS, wowser, that design of Wink''s is G-freakin-orgeous. Now, if he''d only make it with emeralds for moi. Hee hee. Valeria, I love everything you''ve come up with! This is bad, this is really, really bad! I should never have opened this can of worms. I should never have found PS, period. (OK, shake it off...) Anyway, I like both of the last two settings you posted as well. I think the bezel would probably be an alternative for me, especially with the sidestones. I also like the prong set with princess cuts on three sides too!

Ok, I''m more than ecstatic that I''ve received this much information. You ladies have been such a help and I appreciate the time you took on this silly post! You have definitely given me some great ideas and this will be an anniversary upgrade, hopefully our for our third, which isn''t until September. I wanted to go to our jeweler with an idea of whether any of this could be done in case he looked at me like I had three heads, and you all helped me accomplish that!

To close this topic and stop driving you all batty, I think that I would like to either go with a halo with plain sides (seriously, I would love emerald stones even if they were channel set rounds!) or either of the styles that Valeria posted last with bezel or prong set center. Everyone now, big sigh of relief! LOl!
