does princess cut table come in different shapes? My table shape is an octagon. My sister recently told me she thought it was suppose to be a square table shape.

does the shape of the table matter? what is the difference between the two?

There are proprietary cuts like this, often associated with a specific maker or store. Can you tell us where/when it was purchased?

Princess cuts primarily come in two versions....one with 2X4 main breaks and one with 12 main breaks, two each on the long side and four tiny ones above the pointed corners.

Each one will give you and eight sided table, the ones with the mains above the points generally have a "rounded" looking table.

I''m sure there will be other proprietary variations like John says, but these are the two types I encounter most often.
