We recently purchased a 1.02ct princess cut diamond from James Allen. We have yet to receive our engagement ring because it is a somewhat custom setting. This means that I have had about 2 weeks so far to obsess over our purchase and whether or not we made the right choice. I THOUGHT I knew what I was doing, but...maybe, not so much!

This is what we purchased:

Shape: Princess
Carat weight: 1.02
Cut: Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 70.3%
Table: 74.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to thick
Culet: Very Small
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.61*5.53*3.89
Ratio: 1.01

What do you guys think? The depth/table ratio is not good from what I've read.

yes generally the table should be smaller than the depth.

Yeah. That's what I've learned, a day late and a dollar short, as they say!I was fooled by the "Ideal" cut, I've read several diff. things regarding princess cuts( should have just went with a round!) How is it that the table being larger than the depth effects the diamonds performance?
It looks smaller or loses sparkle? Both, maybe?

General rule but not always accurate. With a fancy cut, table and depth do not define the crown, pavilion depth and facet angles and placement. Which is why we require an ASET image.
