I am planning to propose to my girlfriend within the next couple months. I''m trying to determine which diamond specs are most important, and which size would be most appropriate. Her finger is around a size 6, and I''m going with either a Palladium or Platinum 2.5 mm solitaire setting, which tapers in at the diamond.
My total budget for the ring is just over $8000. The setting will either be $760 or $1730, depending upon which metal type I go with. The two sites I am most impressed with, mostly due to their reputation and willingness to show actual images of the stone/light reports, are Whiteflash and Excel Diamonds. From what I can tell, the cut is the most important aspect of the diamond to me. I''m looking for something that is an AGS0 cut. Here are the requirements for what I''m considering:
Size: 1 - 1.2 ct.
Color: F-G
Clarity: VVS2-VS2
Flour: None
Now I know these ranges are very wide, but I left it that way intentionally. How important would it be for me to get an F vs. a G? Or a VVS2 vs. a VS2? Are these differences that would be noticeable? Also, what size would look good with the ring size/width I listed above? Would 1.2 look a bit too large?
Lastly, when looking at those red images on Whiteflash, what should I be looking for? Symmetry of the shapes?
