Hi there I recently went shopping with my boyfriend trying on engagement rings. I have made a decision and I am looking at a solitaire princess cut diamond ring :D However, I tried on 2 different rings with different specs and a BIG price difference, any advice would be appreciated

0.6 carat princess cut, SI1 clarity, F colour £2995
Or
0.7 carat princess cut, SI1 clarity, D colour £4625

I have noticed on their website today that they also have another 2 possible contenders to throw into the mix

0.63 carat princess cut, VS2 clarity, E colour £4475
Or
0.71 carat princess cut, VS1 clarity, G colour £4295

Thanks for any information given :P all diamonds are GIA certified

Hi as a previous princess owner you need to look at the dimensions of each stone.

What lab grading do they have?

Can you link the reports so we can have a good look?

Exciting!!

I can't access the GIA report on their website however I managed to get 2 reports from store. The 0.6 carat that I tried on before and the 0.71 G color which I tried on both today, here's pictures of the reports

Hello LorB,

A Princess cut is a wonderful choice! As a trade member, I cannot comment on specific diamonds, but I can tell you to also consider diamonds in the near colorless range (unless there is a specific cultural reason to pursue a D-E-F). Often times a diamond in the near colorless range (G-H-I-J) will look just as nice to many people especially since you will not normally hold diamonds up next to each other once they are set in jewelry or be asked to show the grading report :). The price tag goes up substantially as the color grade goes from near colorless into the colorless range and you might find an H-I with a better cut, eye-clean clarity and/or more carat weight in the same price-range you are considering.

A few notes about clarity: If you want a diamond that is 'eye-clean' (at B2C we define that as: no inclusions seen in the face-up orientation at a distance of 25cm, under normal lighting, when viewed by a gemologist with 20/20 vision) you are right to look at GIA graded diamonds in the SI1-VS1 range. You will find SOME SI1's that meet the eye-clean criteria and most all VS2 and VS1. Either way it is always prudent to ask your vendor to verify that a diamond is eye-clean.

One other note - you can find a copy of ALL GIA lab reports online if you have the report number. Simply search for "GIA Report Check" and enter the number on that website.
