Princess cut channel set wedding band performance?

Thinking of wedding bands now, specifically princess cut channel set one, something like this James Allen one. It would pair with a round cut in round halo french pave e-ring.

Reasons going this route are to have a secure band for everyday wear, having smooth sides for better comfort, and princess cut melees fit closer together and shows no/less gap in the channel compared to rounds.

My concern is just how "sparkly" princess cut melees would be in a channel set compared to similar quality rounds. With how they are cut and placed so close together, doesn't less light get into a princess cut melee? I figure if round melees are high performing (H&A, eye-clean, ACA, CBI, etc.), then at a typical viewing distance and angles, the gaps between the melees are effectively hidden with the refracting light. Plus, rounds seem generally more affordable than princess cut of similar 4Cs.

Will be trying to see some different ones in-person soon, but I wanted to see if we have some examples here on PS of going with princess vs. round cut melees in channel set, thanks!

My resistance to Channel Set anything is due to obstruction of light; open galleries/profiles allow more light in, permitting more sparkle/flash to come out.
If you are set on a Channel Set Band, l believe your theory pertaining to rounds will be proven correct: the scintillation off of the stones will more than make up for the gap between each stone. However, l doubt highly that princess cuts will be dulled by their tight placement.
Not certain if any of this is helpful; you may have to see up close & personal examples of each before you can decide what works best!!
Please come back with your conclusion! Very interested to know what you decide! :mrgreen2:

I'm again stopped by the word "performance" in this context.
It makes it seem as though we can compare two distinctly different items and use the same benchmark.
Will a prong allow more light in the diamond than a channel set?
I don't believe there's any debate there. Of course, it will.
But a channel set diamond looks and wears completely differently.
If the "performance" is, "will the ring catch on things", a channel clearly "outperforms" a prong.
It's a totally different look- and if well done, both can be beautiful.
A comparison will show likely a difference in brilliance, but how often is the channel set band wearer going to have a prong set ring right next to it to compare?

Anyway, I guess my main point is- if someone loves a channel setting, that should be the "performance" we want to bolster.
If someone's sole concern is not style- but which style of setting allows more allows from a technical standpoint, it's a different answer.
But in my experience, the style really matters to a majority of jewelry lovers.
