There are so many beautiful diamonds to look at here on priscope, but I have always been a princess lover! How can I make sure that I am getting a good cut? We have the Halloway cut advisor for rounds, but what are my options for princesses?

I''m a relative newbie on diamonds so I did alot of hunting online for info. Try this website: http://www.original-diamonds.com/education_proportions_princess_chart.php

Before we bought my emerald cut I did alot of research on proper proportions. Of course, princess is square so yours will be a little easier...emerald cuts can range from short and wide (almost square) to long and narrow. Once I knew the ratio range I wanted it was easier for me to focus on other proportions like the girdle, table, etc. We chose a GIA certified diamond (bought it online) and then took it to an appraiser right after we got it. The appraiser confirmed everything we expected from the diamond...and then told us the price we could expect to pay for it. We paid just a little under the price he told us. We''re very pleased.

Best advice I would give is to make sure you''re buying from a reputable company that has a money back return policy if the diamond isn''t what is represented to you...and then definitely take it to an independent appraiser! It cost about $130 to get the appraisal done but it was worth the peace of mind.

There is no HCA for princess cuts.
I think it would be a huge mathematical nightmare to write a program for a diamond with so many rows of pavilion facets.

If I were shopping for a princess I'd do one of two things.
1. Take the easy way out. Get a very good cut by just picking a princess that AGS gave their top cut grade to, AGS 0. (GIA does not grade cut of princess diamonds.)
2. If I wanted study and learn more I suspect that I may be able to find one that is cut to an even tighter standard, or a different and beautiful look, than AGS 0.

I think a few PS vendors here sell princess cuts that they claim do that.
I could mention the name of one particular vendor but I have really not done my homework on this cut.

Take a look at the Radiant Cut. Princess cuts chip very easily, and does not provide much sparkle. The Radiant cut is very similar, and once mounted, a radiant cut with even dimensions will look similar to a princess cut but with more brilliance. Most princess cut fans have began to move over to this similar cut. http://www.radiantcut.com/RP_Light.aspx

Radiant Cut can be square, "squarish or rectangularish", or rectangular

A Princess should be relatively stable if the girdle doesn''t have very thin areas and is suitably set, however I do disagree about the sparkle, if well cut a Princess will give a beautiful show of light.
