Looks good, no way to tell if it is a H&A from AGS report as AGS do not grade if a stone is H&A.

This is an earlier report, dated 2006, which is why there are no star and lower facet number. Price of the stone is going to be cheaper if compared to a GIA stone graded in the late 2008, IIRC.

It has excellent proportions but whether it is h&a or not images are needed.

Hello Luckie,

Many posters have already given you great advice. May I however come back to your original question, is it worth that much of a price difference?

Price-differences between 2 stones can be due to a lot of factors, and the lab that happened to grade the stone might have no impact. Indeed, AGS'' top-grade for cut is clearly stricter than GIA''s, and this might be a factor for the price-difference.

But other factors might be just as or more important. One stone might be a high H, the other a low H. One might be a very attractive SI1, while the other is not.

What I am trying to say, between two stones, one might have hundreds of small differences, that all have an impact on price. Some of these can be visible in the reported data and/or in the pics.

Live long,
Picking up on Paul''s post: I think that the answer may or may not be discernible from comparing just the reports e.g. low H vs high H or one is more eyeclean SI1 than the other?

With SI1 diamonds for example: its the nature and position of the inclusions that affect how eyeclean/attractive it is: for example SI1 with black inclusions in the centre at a depth where they can get reflected around the table can usually be discounted in price more compared to more commercial SI1s where the inclusions are white and less centrally placed (excluding the case of open feathers etc at the side).

so should I be looking for a stone graded by gia or ags after 2008?

No not at all, the star and LGF info is nice to have but far more important are the overall range of proportions. With an AGS0 the star and LGF will be within good range anyway and also for the most part with non steep deep GIA Excellent, with a diamond with potential * issues* then that info can be very good to have but top cut AGS0 and proven performers of GIA Excellent should be fine, the diamond you posted above looks good!

If you want some more reading, this page explains more on star and LGF
