Right now I''m looking at smaller point diamonds to finish my ring - I''m thinking 10pt. Because fo the small size, I''m thinking I can get away with VS2/SI1 and G-H. I''m more familiar with pricing on a larger and finer (in terms of cut, clarity, etc.. etc..), so I''m not certain what a GOOD price would be to pay for 10 10pt diamonds with the above specs.

Oh yea, it would probably help if I showed my project, lmao

basically going to be 22k gold, encircled with a band of platinum. there''s a 14mm ruby mounted (yea, 14mm, it''s a big-un and worth a bit, hehe, diamonds won''t be the center-piece of this particular ring ;) ) with 5 diamonds arrayed in a V-shape held w/ platinum finish.

So you can see, atleast for that purpose, I''m pretty much stuck w/ 10pt to make my design, unless I want the base of the mount to be as large as my hand in the end, heh ;)

So yea, basically looking at what a GOOD price would be to pay, since I have no idea if I''m being ripped or not (to give you an idea, I''ve been quoted 310CDN(~280USD) per diamond).

awesome ring.
$280us is way high for 10 pointers in my opinion.

see, that''s exactly what I was thinking (esp. since i would be buying 10, you think they would cut it back a bit too)

unfortunately I have 0 clue what would be a relatively unmarked price, so I''m having trouble figuring out what to haggle to.

Meh, gold was so much simpler - I had a 26'''' 24k gold chain custom built a few months ago, got them to knock off 1500 off the price :D ...... designers usually hate me because I refuse to just pay outright for stuff like most will. They''re all like

when I come in to visit, heh.

I paid $165 for a h&a 10 pointer in your range a while back prices on melee have gone up but not that much.
That was a hand selected diamond, selected using an ideal-scope and I paid extra for that.

you''ll have to forgive my noobness with the terms, but what''s h&a stand for?

I''d contact Good Old Gold, NiceIce, Whiteflash, etc and ask for a quote for matched set of 10. (you might even buy a couple extra in case one gets damaged or lost in the future).

Whomever is building the ring should not object as I presume they are supplying the ruby.

Nice ring by the way. I like it that you are only using diamonds as accents.

Like your design!

It''s a bit difficult to get an idea of scale, but you might be able to get away with 5 pointers (2.4mm) rather than 10 (3.0mm), which might save some $.

To heighten the quality, contrast with the red center stone and elegance, I''d recommend ideal cut stones of high color (F/G) and clarity (VS)...botta boom, botta bam!!

i compared an E stone against the ruby with a G. at the eye level, I couldn''t tell any differences. I''m sure at greater magnification I would though.

In terms of size, I think I have to go with 10pt - we worked out the largest I could fit would be 12pt, but that would be too tight. 5pt could work, but I think that they would get too lost in the size of the ruby. 10pt helps to compliment it w/o getting too lost in its size.

The ring seems to have smaller diamonds: 5pts as said above at most. The drawback of using larger ones is that the spaces between them get larger too and the look of a ''line of diamonds'' is lost. From this point of view - the smaller the better. Micropave uses the tiniest diamonds and the effect is magic

If you want a wider row and two lines of pave would not do, perhaps try to find calibrated diamonds - that would work perfectly, but then... the projects gets a bit more complicated. Worth giving it a thought, I believe.

F-G- SI or better stones should be in the $800-1000 per carat range and if you go higher in quality, say VS in clarity then you can clime into the $1,000 - $1,200 per carat range from the vendors you will find here on Pricescope. These will be well cut but not H&A quality cutting. Add or subtract a little based on cutting and quantities, call around, you will like what you find.

right, but somehow i don''t think i can go 1,200 / 10 to get the cost per 10pt, haha ;)

or can I......hmmmmmmmmmmmm

sure ya can when your buying 10 of them.
Buy one and the price goes up because there is a fixed cost of handling the transaction.
