Hello all,

Firstly, this forum is genuinely fantastic and has been an incredible source of information over the past month so thank you! I am attempting to go from knowing absolutely nothing about diamonds to someone just slightly less nervous about parting with a few thousand pounds for my girlfriend's engagement ring so have been busy researching in recent weeks.

Using the information on your site (including the HCA tool), as well as other sources, last week I thought I had found the perfect diamond but moved too slowly and missed out. Today I thought I had found another good option, after considering all dimensions and angles etc, but after seeing the IdealScope (which I'm pretty inexperienced at reading) I'm not too sure about it anymore. I would greatly appreciate any further advice on the following diamond, as well as any other pointers in my on-going search.

Thanks all!

It is either the IS image is taken extremely poorly or the IS image and the video each belongs to a completely different diamond.

In either case, you cannot make any proper assessment.

Although the numbers look good on the certification and the video looks decent, I do want to point out that there might be an issue with this diamond. The clarity grade setting inclusion of the diamond is cloud, which means it could make the diamond look dimmer than the one without, even at SI1. This issue may not be immediately apparent, but if you have seen a well-cut diamond without cloud, you can see the difference. I personally have diamonds that are SI1 with cloud as the only inclusion and they have the same problem. Of course, I am not saying ALL SI1 diamonds with cloud will look the same, but you should exercise caution. Moreover, if you look at the table of the diamond as it rotates in the video carefully, you can see some streaking. In my experience, that usually means there are some problems with cloudiness. By cloudiness, I don't mean 100% cloudy in an SI1 diamond, but it's more noticeable if you view under the sun or high-powered LED lights. However, an SI2 with cloud as the only grade setting inclusion almost always means the diamond's brilliance will be severely affected.
