Ha, I came across that article a while ago and meant to post it! Some of my PSer friends and I were trying to figure out which PSer wrote it, but no one jumped out at us. Although maybe they didn't post and just lurked.

Oh ATW-those really were the good old days! It's a shame admin shut down such a popular forum...not to mention that we'd have a lot to talk about these days! :naughty:

T2, I actually think the below comment was from you? It was noted in the article...

One member wrote that PriceScope was the only place she was able to have these conversations, even though she was the only Obama supporter in a family of conservatives. “When I try to talk about it with my parents, it just turns into a fight,” she wrote, “You guys help me understand my own family better.”

Is that me? I'm FAMOUS! Hey wait-I don't recall signing an informed consent form! Where's the number for the MIT IRB?! :angryfire: :cheeky:

Haha you are famous!

I'm surprised someone left because she felt discriminated against for her sexual orientation.

I don't sense discrimination about that.

I don't know how much you were around in the ATW days, but plenty of posters wrote about voting for Prop 8, being against gay marriage, etc. I got in trouble for calling one of them a bigot, actually! There was a later thread on adoption (in Hangout, I believe-I think you were around for it) where several posters said gay couples adopting babies is wrong and "unnatural." So I can see why a gay poster felt discriminated against.

Thanks T22.
I think I either was not on PS or just never ventured over to ATW much.

There really IS a disconnect here at PS about gays.
It appears 100% accepting but voting records indicate that cannot be so.
I think people just keep their anti-gay feelings to themselves here.
Peer pressure is a powerful thing.

What really matters is how people vote, and that is private.

My thoughts exactly, kenny-well said. When people get in the voting booth it's another story.

I remember that poster and the heinous things being said before she posted it. I don't blame her one bit.

I, for one, hope that the political discussions never return to PS as I cannot forgive certain posters for the despicable and disgusting things they said, in regards to women who have been the victims of sexual assault in particular. Those comments would never have been made, imo, without the build up of increasingly overblown political rhetoric leading up to them. Either that, or those individuals were unbelievably stupid but had enough sense to keep it to themselves until they were lulled into exposing that fact by the sudden inrush of people spamming posts without thinking them through.

The political fallout and the beliefs it exposed in people I had previously respected has continued to taint my view of those posters and of PS in general. I left PS for a long time, and ceased recommending people go there for diamond purchasing assistance until I saw that steps had been taken to get the site back on track. ATW became a terrible ambassador for PS and proved that political discussion is not something that we can be trusted with without becoming a howling mob which degenerates into screaming matches that bear no semblance to civil 'discussions' where we "agree to disagree."

She wrote about some things I never noticed (political discussion, sexual orientation discrimination) but she did capture a lot of what PS is about: civility, information, sharing. Thanks for posting the article.

I'm glad the politics are gone and hope they stay away.
Though they are not gone from this particular thread, are they? We're back to to the good old days of inserting the opinions of SOME on a VERY POLITICAL subject well known to be not agreed upon at all by most of the country into a thread that had nothing to do with it, and oh so subtly tarring everyone who doesn't agree as a bigot--and as a coward as well. Though everyone knows what happens as soon as this discussion starts, which is why quite a few prefer to skip the 'discussions' (that is, being labelled and called names) and instead just vote their consciences in private.
I repeat, I'm glad the politics are banned and I hope they stay banned.
Back to diamonds.

It really is that simple, isn't it? I'm not sure if everyone realizes this, but clicking on every forum and then clicking on and reading every single thread is not mandatory.

exactly! Thing2 you and i will never agree about politics but i still like to hear your opinions.i have no hard feelings towards any of the PS liberals here even though they are wrong...

I LOVED that article! It completely took me back to 2008, the year that I became a member and the year my daughter got married.

I was a regular contributor in the ATW threads and have maintained contact with several other posters from that time period.

I will always miss the political threads even though it did become extremely contentious during the election. It was inevitable with the first African American candidate.

In the end, it is a testament to the PS community. It really is in a class all it's own. So grateful to have found it....even though nobody will respond to my request for ideas and icebreakers for the Womens Networking Event I have to lead. :-(

I was thinking that each table would have a different birthstone on it and the women would have to rotate to the table of their birthstone, their spouses, their family...I dunno. I need to 250 women to mingle for 45 minutes in a fun way!
