Hi All,

Does anyone out there know where I can get a quote for a 0.83 carat I SI1 ASA round diamond in India. I have heard diamonds are cheaper in India, and was wondering if anyone could help.

Thanks All,

Hope you don't need to send it back for any reason...

Wink

What is ASA ?

I would be amazed to get a beter price on a slower market - but miracles are out there !

tallguy, if you are buying one stone only, forget the cheaper price. india could be cheaper when buying for 1000000 $ + in wholesale. i don't know where you are but i strongly recommend you to buy in your area or eventually you could try when visiting india, but still, it is like tourists buying a saphire in thailand...very risky.

good luck, robbe

(to ana; india is the strongest diamond market in the world, please do your homework.)

I think AnA does more than her fair share of homework, in view of her multiple posts here. Some courtesy please

For my two cents, I live in Belgium, and initially thought of buying on the US market. However, when you buy from a foreign market, you have to take into account possible custom duties, which could be much higher than the price benefit you get in the market you buy from. Which is why I decided that the additional price is worth it to buy on your own market.

Oups... I guess I had in mind the type of merchandise PS lists. I know India is a major processing link (leader in cut diamond exports: ~50% market share by value and ~80 by volume in '99 and holding since), but it would be the US with the most purchasing power at the retail end and the largest demand drive internationally ( over 50% of world's jewelry sales and over $22bn diamond jewelry sales).

Interestingly, the respective 50% of cut diamond exports means $5bn - not allot compared to the $22bn making 50% of international diamond jewelry sales! (well, of course the numbers are seriously approximated - but these are not unusually bad). Obviously, these are different links of the market, but one may well get an idea of just how much value added this industry generates

Ok, I did contend with less-than-great sources (and amount of research) for this... It would be interesting to have a breackdown of what US diamond sales are made of here and there, given that the e-ring hype is not universal (yet). What would be a good market overview to bring my stats home

PS: Thanks Loengard, but I am just a hobbist who can type fast! I would like to get these things rigth...

Robbe -- If you are going to pick on someone -- don't pick on AnA's research! She may be a hobbiest, but she does more homework than anyone not directly in the industry here.

not directly in the industry:

that's one more reason for her to be careful; too much self assurance while not being in this industry can generate interesting opinions but at times dangerous advise...

but ok, i'll take my tweezers next time and will address in a more gentle way.

Certainly a huge % of diamonds of all quailties sold in USA are polished in India.

But as Robbe says, it is a dealers market and many retailers would not even find it an easy market. It is not the place for consumers to buy 1 diamond!

Please let me know as to how much will a 3piece diamond engagement ring with total diamond 1.2-1.5ct will cost in india?

Let's say you do get it cheaper? So what? It's like buying in Antwerp---or the diamond district. Unless you have an expert eye you could easily end up with an ugly diamond.
