Prices for Modern vs Old Cut Diamonds

Good Morning,

Can anyone give me more in depth theory (or a link), as to the difference in the price of a 1ct brilliant cut vs a 1ct old or euoropean cut?
In the various price guides the prices of the old cuts are approximately $1000 to 1500 per ct lower for the old cuts. The obvious are:
Brilliance of the stone, light loss through cut off culet. What am I missing?? Thank you!

Is it fashion? I don't know. I love old cuts (and have an antique OMC diamond e-ring). I'm in the UK and a very reputable goldsmith jeweller told me the olds are valued at 25% LESS than a modern cut of the same size, clarity colour etc. so in the UK they are cheaper than modern equivalent. That said, diamonds are still better value in the states whatever the cut. You don't get much for your money in the UK.
