Price Question

What sort of price do you think a ring like this should be. Platinum wedding/half eternity band. 6 diamonds in a shared prong setting 42 pointers each. H VS clarity in a retail shop. Interested to see if it is priced fairly.

Yes, certainly would need to know the grades of the stones. Most rings I've seen like this seem to have an odd number of stones (5, 7, 9).

Also, six .42 ct stones will get you over 27mm across, not including prongs, so depending on your finger size, could rub against adjacent fingers, causing discomfort.

I would venture to guess that in a "retail shop" you'd be paying 30-50% more than with a vendor like IDJ or someone on here. Call IDJ and ask for a quote.

Not everyone charges the same for their time and talents, nor does everyone make these things in the same way. Some techniques are more time consuming than others. Equally importantly, not everyone’s idea of H/VS will be the same. Prices are going to vary by a factor of 2 or more depending on the details.

I second the comment that 0.42cts each is pretty big for this sort of thing. a 42 pointer is going to be something like 3mm thick between your fingers. Depending on the shape of your hands, this could be decidedly uncomfortable.
